Covid is a worker’s rights issue. Workplaces need to implement clean air standards, paid time off and provide free respirators.

We’re in a mass disabling event, and governments told people it was safe to “go back to normal” to prop up the economy.

Covid isn’t over. It’s still killing & disabling people.

This May Day, demand clean air & Covid mitigation.

'Thousands of people who are born deafblind will understand live conversations for the first time thanks to new research into smart textiles being developed by Nottingham Trent University (NTU).

This world-first study will eventually allow the spoken word to be translated into a form of braille and communicated through e-textiles gloves to the fingers of people who cannot hear or lipread.'

Being autistic, I am challenged when it comes to communicating effectively with non-autistic people. (#DualEmpathyProblem) This gives me first-hand experience when it comes to the irony of a disability affecting the very means at my disposal to defend myself against bias, prejudice, and bigotry. I find it infuriating when people throw my disability under the bus, calling someone who is behaving like a jerk "autistic" as an insult.

Having said that, most of you are probably nodding your heads, autistic or not. So, I challenge you to consider what it's like for someone with an intellectual disability. What's the most commonly used type of insult for people behaving badly? It's not that they're autistic. It's that they're stupid, have a low IQ, are an idiot... You get the idea.

Intelligence (or lack thereof) does not define a person's worth or moral standing. In fact, it has *nothing* to do with it.

You know, Republicans call me a grifter for my #disability payments all the time...

I just figured out an actual grift!

It would even be morally acceptable!

I'll just start recording inside of recuperative cares, and shelters at all times, and get all the messed up stuff the staff does on file, then sue them.

I am starting TWO DIFFERENT LAWSUITS from doing that soon.

I could just keep doing that and get every messed up place on the West Coast closed.

On the serious side, though, the attack on people with mental illness, developmental disorders, and autoimmune disease is pretty scary.

Like, "useless eaters" scary.

In Canada, there are debates about slowing immigration. I think we instead need to be preparing infrastructure and staffing for refugees from the US: LGBTQIA+ people and disabled people for starters.

A great article and not just for bioscience, it's instructive and educational on the ableism and eugenic topics.

My partner has mobility limitations and is blind. We can’t self drive and camp. He needs a warm location in winter and to stay in accessible accommodation. Australia is SO EXPENSIVE to travel in.

Does anyone have any advice?

As expected, no empathy or compassion was shown in response to my "deep" introductory post—only an expectation and a request for me to provide additional work and #EmotionalLabour for the unit coordinator (which, I had already completed).

So yes, while I appreciate that there was no #InspirationPorn, it would be nice to hear that they acknowledge it and are happy to support if needed.

RFK Jr sits down with Dr Phil and tells parents to “do their own research” when it comes to vaccines.

He ignores the fact that most people aren’t trained or equipped to do proper research.

The internet is full of AI slop.

“Research” for many parents is Facebook memes & misinformation.

The US is experiencing their worst measles outbreak in decades. Three people have died. The message needs to be clear & simple.

The MMR vaccine is safe and effective. It saves lives. Vaccinate your kids.

There’s a ton of overlap between the Covid Cautious & Chronic Illness communities because people living with chronic illness don’t have the luxury of ignoring the pandemic.

They know what a Covid infection will do to their precarious health.

so when the rest of the world decided to bury their heads in the sand and rush ‘back to normal’, we got left behind.
Stuck bearing the burden of knowing that the pandemic isn’t over.

That every day people are dying or becoming disabled.

That each Covid infection is playing Russian Roulette with disability and eventually, your number will be up.

There’s a significant mental toll that occurs when you are living in a different reality than the rest of the world.

People think we’re isolated and lonely because we’re often housebound and unable to do the activities we used to do, but they never consider the loneliness that comes from refusing to live in denial.

From knowing the danger everyone is in and being powerless to stop it.

All of these factors make maintaining a baseline all the more important, but it’s a delicate balance. Every thing we do is a cost/benefit analysis. We have to consider how much energy it will take. Do we have enough time to recover afterward? Is there a more disability friendly alternative?

The executive functioning required to make these decisions is considerable, and ironically also has a negative impact on our baseline. It’s exhausting having to be on high alert all the time. Unfortunately the alternative, throwing caution to the wind, is far more dangerous to our health.
