So my research area in math is combinatorics, and my name is Drake...so how on earth did I not discover "Discrete Mathematics With Ducks" by sarah-marie belcastro until just now??! 🤔🦆

I need that book.

searching for any structures / theory that involve a particular operation on non-empty lists of postitive integers like "the length of the list multiplied by the least common multiple of all the items in the list"

any ideas? references to any literature would be very appreciated if you know of any.

Questions: Category Theory in Discrete class?

I'm having a first glance at @BartoszMilewski 's #CategoryTheory for #Programmers

I teach a #DiscreteMath course which is for #CompSci students and also our Intro to Proofs. Assuming there is no room for adding non-elective courses or breaking that one in two, should I be introducing elements of Category Theory in this class?

In how many undergraduate curriculums in the US does it appear?

it is a bit "old school" but for news in the #orms, #optimization, and #discretemath world, there are mailing lists to follow:

OPTNET listserv.zib.de/mailman/listin

DMANET zaik.uni-koeln.de/AFS/publicat

ORNET jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmi

contains job announcements, conferences, etc.

Mathematically, I'm most interested in #NumberTheory (years ago did some research related to #ContinuedFractions). I love the numbers #phi, #pi, and #e, and the various days celebrating them! I enjoy #geometry and #discretemath recreationally too. CS/engineering-wise, I'm most interested in #ai #artificialintelligence and #MachineLearning, #robotics and #automation, #Android #appdev, #cybersecurity, #softwaredevelopment, and more!

Hello!

After a few days figuring out Mastodon with the help of the folks at QOTO, I will formally introduce myself in order to pin this in my profile :)

My name is Abde and I am a computer scientist. My main domain is #NumericalCalculus and #ParallelComputing. I am currently a PhD student at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (#belgium) and working on porting numerical solvers for simulations on the GPU using #CUDA. You may find my first paper here: etna.math.kent.edu/vol.55.2022

Other research interests are #complexity #computability #graphtheory #geometry #discretemath

I also work as a #VirtualReality developer. My current professional interests are #simulations #numericalcalculus #geometry. We also contribute in several #opensource projects. Most of my work is done in #Unity3D, so feel free to ask any questions!

As a hobby I do some #gamedev and also #musicproduction. I will share some snippets of what I do here, but for now I am focusing in crafting my art by producing #housemusic in #bitwig.

Please enjoy! I am not the most active but I am looking to build my Mastodon network, so feel free to follow and I will follow back :)

I also want to point out that it is discrete math, not the other things you mention, which is primarily used in computer science, ie, "robotic calculation."

Also, number theory is part of discrete math, so I'm confused about why one would say that " #DiscreteMath includes a ton of things real mathematicians think of as "math" and ignores the things laypeople think of as "math..."" including "number theory."
