Morning all. It’s Another Duck Friday. Today it’s the smallest of the mergansers, the Smew. Sometimes known as the Smee Duck, the Magpie Diver or the Weasel Coot. Whatever you call it, it’s a lovely wee thing. Have a fab weekend. xx

An unusual visitor at Lake Wallace (near Lithgow, NSW) today.
A pair of black Muscovy ducks.
My guess is they have wandered out of somebody's back yard in Wallarawangg and discovered a slice of heaven.
These two, if they don't die in winter, will probably set up home and start a small feral population.
I can't fix the news for you, but I can share another pretty mallard picture from yesterday evening.

Went out for a later walk, thinking everywhere might be quieter, but it wasn't. The combination of the first good weather of the year coinciding with school holidays is a slight shock to the system when you live somewhere tourists & day trippers visit It was a nice vibe though. Except for the ducks. The local ducks were performing high drama.
A pretty mallard, showing off the colors on her wing.

Good morning.

Here’s a thought: for every inaction, there seems to be an equal and opposite inaction. Take my home security system, for example. For a couple of weeks now, it has been alerting me that a break-glass sensor needs a new battery. The replacement battery? I’ve had it all along. In fact, if I glance over my left shoulder, I can see it sitting on the corner of my other desk with three of its companions. My failure to spend five minutes replacing the battery has resulted in precisely nothing happening. Well, except for the security company calling to upsell me on new equipment—a generous offer I politely declined. What they didn’t offer, of course, was to replace the battery themselves. Maybe today’s the day I’ll finally take care of it.
