Electric cars cause pollution still - yup - but brake dust to the same extent as ICE cars? Although heavier, electric cars rely more heavily on regenerative braking than brake disks. I expect the brakes on my car to last the lifetime of the car, I use them so rarely.

Research shows move to electric vehicles may not be enough to enable pollution from cars to be eradicated

This week, we heard that all #NEVI funding for #ElectricCar charging had been culled by the White House.

Here's what we know, some myths to bust, and how to keep driving electric in this new hateful age.

I know I have already said that frequently, but #Johannesburg has so many impressive #museum|s.

If you are into #cars, #HorseCarriage|s, #Tram|s, the first #SouthAfrica|n #ElectricCar (prototypes of the #Joule already existed when #Tesla wasn’t a thing yet) or other modes of #transport, the #JamesHallMuseumOfTransport is a must see.

Many of the exhibits are in an excellent condition, too.

At the end of October last year, my partner got an #ElectricCar - and a nice one at that. We're a two-car household and live in our own flat in a small development with a 'private’ car park.

Now, there's no way to charge at home - we're too far from the car park to be able to link a cable, and the management company have so far refused to put in any charging points.

However, there are quite a few charging points nearby, and as we both work from home, it's quite nice to take some time out to go and charge the car - well, he does, anyway.

I've been noticing with my petrol car more and more fumes coming from it. I've only had it a year and a half, but I'm seriously considering swapping for an #EV. I drive fairly often to my mum, who is about 80 miles away (each way) and so I'm considering a long-range EV. My partner’s car has a max range of about 160 miles. Thinking about the #Kia #ENiro, #Skoda #EnYaq or #Hyundai #Kona. When I’m with my mum, it needs to be high enough for her to get in and to fit the foldable wheelchair in the boot - would prefer not to have to put the seats down.

Another charger, another charging app I can't install because my home address happens to be outside the UK.

It is undeniably a good thing that most chargers in the UK can be used simply by tapping a credit card. No need to install an app, create an account, order an RFID card, or have internet access at the site.

It's undeniably a bad thing that this is often the only option available to visitors to the UK, because it leaves them with no way to monitor the progress of a charge while away from the car, increasing the risk of overstaying at the charger.

You can't use the car's app to do this if you have a rental car, because when you're not the owner you can't use those apps. That leaves the charging company's app as your only option, except it seems that a lot of the companies operating in the UK have set their apps as UK only in the Google Play Store. That doesn't restrict the app to people who are *in* the UK (which would make some sort of sense), it restricts the app to people whose home address is in the UK, which seems utterly pointless.

So far I've run into this with both GRIDSERVE and ChargePoint, and I strongly suspect there will be more. The only charging app I have been able to use is Tesla, because that one is international.

The motorway services at junction 1 of the M6. There are a total of 64 fast chargers here, 28 Tesla Superchargers (Tesla only) and 36 GRIDSERVE. The GRIDSERVE chargers can be used without an app, RFID card, internet access, or account, you just plug in and tap a credit card to start charging.

Australia has some catching up to do.

Hah, I just tried to turn adaptive cruise control on and the car told me that service was not available because I have not subscribed to it... 🙄

Is there a single person who knows what happened to #opensource #OSHW #electriccar company open motors and their #creativecommons design files that are missing from their Google docs? I'd love to have a look at them.
