@_9CL7T9k8cjnD_ @georgetakei #Evolution might be teaching but I doubt mankind is learning - at least not permanently... Otherwise we would have a capable and dedicated public servant in the #WhiteHouse and the insurrectionist and fraudster in #Jail. Let's see what the #MAGAts are saying once their #SocialSecurity cheques stop coming...
Not holding my breath, though. Apparently still 45% of voters are approving of the #OrangeFelon's job performance... Even with markets in free fall, looming recession, and talking about war with Denmark, Panama, and Canada these fuckwits give him higher rating than Biden at the same time in his presidency.

A bizarre ancient organism previously thought to be a giant fungus may actually belong to an undiscovered branch of the tree of life that mysteriously went extinct.

Prototaxites, which lived between 420 million and 375 million years ago, was the first giant terrestrial life form to inhabit Earth. It grew trunk-like structures up to 8 metres tall and 1 metre wide.

*Odonata*, ie dragonflies and damselflies, are the best fliers on the planet.
They can fly backwards and stand still id-air and are also among the most efficient predators on the planet, with a ridiculous 95% success rate.

And yet, 99% of insects are NOT *Odonata*.

Why?

Because *Odonata* cannot fold their wings on their back, which is necessary to burrow.

The moral? Turns out that being able to crawl into the dirt is much more important than being able to soar in the sky.

Apparently, some 530 million years ago (give or take) in the #Cambrian age, after about 2.5 billion years of rather plodding #evolution, bi-lateral symmetry appeared in animals (after some dabbling in tri-lateral and penta-lateral symmetry) and when brains showed up they were bi-lateral. #Vertebrate, but still #jawless, fishes were swimming after each other for lunch. #Eyes, which had already existed for a long while, started showing up in pairs, at the head end of the fishes.
