I had a post go "viral" (or its equivalent here) about how to install Linux instead of throwing your Windows 10 machine away, and keep getting non alt-text reply guys posting this, I think, to try to troll me. (I assume they are the 3-4 actual Windows fanboys who made it to the Fediverse).

But, actually, I think it's hilarious. It's great advice, actually... I don't see why you can't just use Linux for a lot of things.

Fedora 42 comes with TCL 9. Emacspeak's Outloud speech server, using IBMTTS which is the most developed speech server, was made for TCL 8.6 and TCLX 8.4. Or the other way around, but I think that's right. Well, I guess things have changed in TCL 9, because the speech server won't compile now. Ah well, Linux gives without knowing, and takes away without knowing. And Emacspeak hasn't been updated in a year, even with the main branch, so I guess that part of blindness history, after a good 30 years, is over. Yay. Let's see the blindness news networks cover that eh? Nah. Instead, it ended with a sigh of "As expected."

I wanna keep #Fosstodon alive. This is our little space in this whole shitshow. One incident can't change the fact that this is one of the nicest #fediverse instances around. People talk about #foss and life, they listen even when they don't post, they engage, they look past your silliness. These are reasons enough to keep it alive. Let's not give up. Let's not fear the internet #mob. Moving to another instance just emboldens them. We shouldn't.

It's nice to finally see @kev and @mike make statements about the drama that happened on #Fosstodon however, the sad part is to see that they are both likely stepping away. They will either shut the instance down completely or possibly let others take it over to keep it alive.

Regardless, there will be a lot of people that will end up needing/wanting to find a new instance to call home, and that's not a fun experience here on the #Fediverse

With regards to them both stepping away, regardless of how it's done, I get it, totally.

I ran #AllThingsTech along with @beardedtechguy and while it was a ton of fun at times, it was indeed a LOT of work, and it was quite costly, even as a small server with only a couple hundred users. I can't imagine the work and the costs associated with a server that has nearly 10,000 users and is almost 8 years old.

I certainly wish Kevin and Mike both the best of luck in whatever decision they make and I hope all of those that decide to move to another instance or may end up being forced to move to another instance are able to move without much hassle or issues. This is definitely one place Mastodon needs to get much better at if it ever wants to be mainstream and truly successful in a larger fashion.
