@swansinflight @offby1 I managed to join #freenode_#mastodon:matrix.org in libera.chat (apparently) using element on mtrx.nz. If I understand everything correctly. Nothing happening the yet, though (no past messages as they're encrypted)...

@offby1 you might have better luck looking for a 'place' that's compatible with Fediverse values (i.e. open, decentralised, and non-exclusionary). Neither Slack nor Discord fit those values.

I see there's a matrix (which is compatible!) channel #freenode_#mastodon:matrix.org presumably bridged from IRC, which might be what you're after.

Fwiw, I'm a long-time Mastodon admin (just setting up my 4th instance as I type) but I haven't joined any messaging groups related to ops.

@Sandra Thanks for the link. It's something I might look into.

To answer your question: Yes, the joining of rooms across instances is what makes it 'federation'--like our two ActivityPub services are doing now. I have joined a few Freenode channels (i.e. joining #freenode_#room@freenode.org), and the experience is sub-par, mostly because of nickserv, netsplits, etc--good ol' IRC. :P

Each room can be configured to varying degrees of access from others.

@zwovierzwo Issue auf Github erstellen?

github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed

Ansonsten geben Sie dort noch die eMail hello@pixelfed.org an.

Und den Mastodon Account @pixelfed hast du ja schon. ☺️

In der Doku ist dann noch versteckt:

IRC: #pixelfed on irc.freenode.net (#freenode_#pixelfed:matrix.org through Matrix)

Vieleicht hilft einer davon weiter.

Pro tip:

If you're using #Matrix and don't want to give up #IRC, you can join any freenode channel via matrix.org:

@mariu5 #freenode_#netzkombinat:matrix.org so vielleicht?

@alchemistswater

Linux.Pizza used to have an pretty active dedicated room for just linux.pizza, but since we closed our matrix-server in september (due to lack of time and funding) it kinda has died off.

But if you are on matrix (or freenode), you can consider to join the GNU-Group (bridged to Matrix<>IRC<>Telegram)

#freenode_##gnugroup:matrix.org

Or on ##gnugroup on freenode

The #Matrix-#IRC bridge is actually pretty good. I've been using Thunderbird IRC chat all this time.

Okiedokie boys and girls, it's on! I'm starting my AMA (ask me anything)! Ask me whatever you want! Go to webchat.freenode.net and join the #realcaseyrollins channel or go to riot.im and join the #freenode_#realcaseyrollins:matrix.org channel.

Conversely you can reply to this message here and I'll answer it.

Casey Rollins :heteropride:

Alrighty, one follower away from 500.

Remember, join the IRC for the AMA:

Channel: #realcaseyrollins

And if you're using Riot.IM (which I highly recommend) this is the channel to connect to:

#freenode_#realcaseyrollins:matrix.org

Repost if you'd prefer I do the AMA here on Gab.

Casey Rollins :heteropride:

IRC chat for my upcoming AMA:
Freenode: #realcaseyrollins
Riot.IM: #freenode_#realcaseyrollins:matrix.org

For Riot.IM remember to JOIN the room, don't click CREATE! lol that tripped me up all the time.

I'll answer your questions when I hit 500 followers

HEY GABBERS! DO YOU MISS DIRECT / PRIVATE MESSAGING? WELL ...

... I have something for you! It's nearly three months and there is no DM with #NewGab.

# IRC aka Internet Chat Relay

- it is free
- it is real-time
- you can chat one-on-one or in a group known as a channel
- it is easy
- it is reliable
- it has been around since 1988 (that's 31 years!)

# Big Picture

1. You must either use software for it or you can use your browser if you go through a service.
2. You must connect to a server on a network to chat with others on that network.
3. You must give yourself a nickname (screen name). Perhaps you will use your Gab name.
4. To join a channel, you type:
> /join #<name>
where <name> is the name of the channel
5. If your friend in online, you can start a private convo with
> /msg <nick>
where <nick> is your friend's screen name.

NOTE: I'm on Freenode. See my profile to catch me thru IRC.
