A spontaneous shot with my phone while traveling from Frankfurt to Cologne. It looked so mysterious and fascinating with the mist over the field, the bright moon and the stars, plus the reflection of the sky in those puddles of water.

The lower part of the photo shows a road into a field. It’s very dark, nearly black, but there are puddles of water on the road which reflect the blue sky. Towards the horizon it’s getting quite misty, though some trees, a power pole and the red warning lights of wind power plants are visible. The upper side displays a blue sky with a bright moon and some stars.

Canada geese in the fog this morning here in Alameda. These ones were on the grass behind the college. The fog is obscuring the college buildings (which are just beyond the tree in the first two shots).

Bought Halide camera app in 2018 which admittedly is a long while back but only recently started using it. A recent update said they were doing subs now, I could still use it but not any new features. Another update today and locked out, can’t restore purchase, only subscribe for a significant NZ $39.99 annual amount or a NZ $99.99 one off price. That’s a rock hard pass no thank you. Imagine buying it again only to be locked out in a few years when they decide to change things again. #Halide

Taken on iPhone Camera.app - a bowl of porridge. The lighting is good, the details called out. It is a little on the blue side but I did have the “Cool” filter setting switched on.
Taken on Zerocam - a bowl of porridge. The tones are all a bit more orange and edges softer.
Taken on Halide - lighting and detail is closer to the camera.app version. The colours are more warm and the details are there but contain a slight softness.

How I Fell Back in Love with iPhone Photography

There’s a #Japanese word, #Komorebi, that describes beams of light and dappled shadows that result when the sun shines through trees.

When I take my dog on walks around my leafy neighborhood in Washington, D.C., komorebi is what most often catches my eye, especially in this autumnal moment when dense, green summer foliage is starting to thin and turn golden.

Text Shot: As the sun sets and the shadows grow long on the edge of a precipitous valley near my apartment, the foliage creates fluttering patterns of warm and cool colors. I try to photograph these apparitions with my iPhone camera, but I’m always disappointed in the results: the device’s automated image processing treats contrast as a problem to be solved, aggressively darkening the highlights and lightening up the shadows to achieve a bland flatness. Little of the lambent atmosphere I see in real life survives in the image. Downloading a new camera app recently changed things for me. Halide, which launched in 2017, is an elegant program that can be used in place of your phone’s default camera. It mimics the controls of a digital S.L.R., allowing, for instance, the user to manually adjust the focal length. I am really trying to understand the interest in ProcessZero as it's called in the Halide app.

ProRaw and ProcessZero RAWs are both raws in the end of the day. Noone uploads unedited RAWs. We edit them. The slightly less aggresive contrast and sharpening is easily edited away in a RAW editor.

Where is the added value? Please explain.
