A very cool study using #clumped #isotope measurements in #oyster shells from the Early #Cretaceous showing high and variable #seasonality in response to climate changes caused by atmospheric #CO2 shifts. #mollusk shells again demonstrated as useful climate archives!

Great paper by Gray and Brandon @G-cubed @Agu on the #clumped #isotope #temperature relationship in gar fish scales. I especially enjoyed reading about the treatment of effective vs mean temperatures and seasonal bias in these calibration studies.

This Is My Glasgow

Secondly, it wasn't Frederick Soddy who introduced the word at the dinner party. Instead it was proposed to him by his cousin, the physician Margaret Todd (one of the first women to obtain a medical degree from the Edinburgh School of Medicinw for Women). Soddy then introduced the word to the rest of the world in a 1913 paper in the scientific journal Nature.

This Is My Glasgow

I love that Glasgow University has a plaque on one of its buildings marking the birthplace of the word Isotope. Unfortunately, it has two rather major errors. Firstly, the dinner party where the word was first introduced didn't happen in 1913, but sometime between 1909 and 1912.
