Some of my favorite Britishisms I've picked up from my English wife:

- squidgy (descriptor for cats)

- proper (seems more apt than saying "actual", "literal", "real", etc)

- faffing (I think I've taken it to mean simply puttering around instead of wasting time; I told my wife she was faffing around recently and she did not appreciate it lol. See: plodding)

- plodding (I think I've mistakenly equated the connotations of plodding with faffing. If any Brits could help me understand the differences of faffing vs plodding please lmk)

- lovely (My wife and I call each other this all the time and I didn't realize it was a UK thing instead of my wife's thing)

- brekkie (same as lovely, I assumed my wife just called breakfast this cute word instead of it being a UK thing)

A short list of the Britishisms I absolutely cannot endorse:

- interchangeably referring to the ground outdoors as the "floor"

- "swimming cozzie/costume"

- using "pudding" as in what you'll have for dessert

- saying "sorry" in place of "excuse me" (overly apologetic, though I'm quick to switch whenever I go to the UK nowadays lol)

Also, obviously, I started making tea, putting milk in my tea, and switched out my coffee pot for a kettle. I quit drinking coffee for unrelated reasons, but I became a huge tea fiend in part because my wife showed me what proper a tea is.

Edit: my wife just informed me I confused squidgy with stodgy re: food!

I am from an asian country. My long distance relationship girlfriend is in Netherlands. We have been together for 3 years. We haven't met. We planned to meet this year but my parents said no because they doesn't trust her. The distance between us so big too. They want me to make a step after my college ends ( that is in 2027 ).

We can't do it anymore. We are really serious in our relationship. We need to meet next year. I want you to tell me what I can do in this situation. Any suggestion is good. We are in a really low time in our relationship. We really need your help.

It’s another #LanaDelRey day & I’m #NowPlaying #DidYouKnowThatTheresATunnelUnderOceanBlvd for the 5th time.

I’m a big #LDR fan & this, for me, is really close to peak. It’s not quite hitting me like #NFR, but it feels like it’s in that kind of ballpark. & #A&W is most certainly something else. It’s right up there.

This is the standard black #vinyl pressing alas neither this nor the indie only green is flawless. This is a bit noisy - but I can live with it.
