It is funny how the people who are getting charged with corruption are the ones who have never been in power, and so had authority over nothing but puny stipends.
Also odd that just months after patriot papa Jean-Marie (ora pro nobis) died, the modernizing, moderate daughter is the one who gets into trouble with the government. A sign her strategy was less, or more effective?
Europe, now a solid block of total-liberal states, where dissent against globalism is criminalized? Not only will it be interesting to see what happens in France, but also in Romania, where Simion is now polling about where Georgescu was. Will he not be allowed to compete, either, will there be fraud, or will the system break down?

"What the two of them so effusively believe about growth is more or less what I think about redistribution. Which is to say: when you redistribute wealth, you in fact hasten a present that is radically different from the one we currently know.

In an unequal society where the majority must invest the lion’s share of their time and energy into the labour required to obtain the bare necessities of life, individuals lose much in the way of personal freedom and life satisfaction. But we also collectively sacrifice unfathomable quantities of human creativity and potential. There might be abundant growth, but that can matter very little if its fruits aren’t broadly shared.

Redistribution does not equal, as Klein and Thompson assert, a mere “parceling out of the present.” In a very difference sense than theirs, it represents its own agenda of abundance — one reflecting the richest egalitarian ideas of the 19th and 20th centuries. The liberalism of the 21st might reject those ideas, but many of us on the left still see them as indispensable. Socialism, contrary to what many of its critics have historically claimed, is first and foremost concerned with human freedom: freedom to think, freedom to dream, freedom to create, freedom to live unburdened by toil
(...)
Klein and Thompson appear to believe distributional questions can be mostly elided if enough new technology is invented and a sufficient quantity of stuff is built and produced. Contentious debates about degrowth aside, I find this assertion vastly more improbable and utopian than the project of universal social welfare or the realization of social and economic rights. Scientific and technological innovations can be hugely beneficial, but until we live in the world of Star Trek: The Next Generation it’s unlikely they will ever compensate for the dearth of social and economic justice."

The saddest thing about #Trump being the #president of the #USA is the fact that the only country that benefits from the new administration’s decisions is #China. A country that treats its people like robots, kills other-minded people, other ethnicity people, spreads mass #surveillance everywhere - on the streets, in the internet.

We have to acknowledge the truth. Trump, #America, please come back to our common ideas of #freedom, #liberalism, and #democracy.

#Liberalism is a right-wing philosophy that defends capital accumulation. This has always made it a poor tool for challenging structural hierarchies and social inequalities. It is past time to abandon it in favour of a genuine left alternative that can address core problems.

Feral Thoughts

This characteristic, coupled with the complete absence of the #GlobalSouth, makes #Mastodon, and the rest of the #Fediverse, a lonely hostile place for anti-colonial, anti-imperial, anti-capitalist thought.

For similar reasons, the Fedi continues being a nasty place for any person of colour.

The #Fediverse hates Donald Trump NOT because he is an imperialist, but because he does not supply the #liberal flavour of #imperialism.

union.place/@feralthoughts/114

And by bullying nations full of white people, Trump has broken the compact of transnational white brotherhood—another reason why the white liberal Fedi hates him.

#RandahlFink is THE most popular poster on #Mastodon. Literally every few hours, his posts go viral on mastodon.social, the dominant #Fediverse instance.

He routinely expresses similar sentiments about #Denmark and about other European countries. He routinely whines as to how Donald Trump’s #USA is turning its back on its loyal imperialist allies.

And those posts routinely go viral.

This viral post, by #RandahlFink, literally says that #Denmark has been a loyal vassal state of the #USA, that it joined every illegal imperial war waged by the USA—from Korea in the 1950s to Iraq in the 2000s.

Randahl Fink whines that the USA is not appreciating this loyal poodle, is in fact kicking it down.

My take: In the medium term, capital will begin to shift away from the US and flow to other countries such as China, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and some larger European countries such as France and Germany. In the 21st century, no sufficiently advanced and complex market society can survive on its own. Even Russia itself depends heavily on India and China.

"It may be surprising when capital constrains the designs of right-wing governments but only when we lose sight of the limits placed on capital itself. Capitalist firms operate and produce materially under definite limits and conditions independent of their will. For capital, barriers to accumulating value realized as profit appear as existential threats. Competition with other firms puts capitalists and firms at constant risk, exerting immense pressure to expand market share and realize ever greater amounts of profit in whatever place in the world market it can. Whether it is protectionist trade measures or the crippling of state capacity to service debt and maintain social order, capital will take measures to defend against policies that cut into its ability to accumulate.

The liberal democratic state’s role as a facilitator of capital accumulation has been essential to the march of capitalism around the globe. Not only does the state serve a legitimating ideological function of market processes, but it also coordinates and mediates between different factions of capital in the expansion of international trade and investments. In times of crisis, where competition between capital and state intensifies, the state takes on an even more prominent role. For instance, to whatever extent the retaliatory tariffs and other measures taken by the Canadian state impacted the Trump Administration’s decision to delay the tariffs, they were effective because they unified and amplified a response from the capitalist class ..."

It is so weird to watch how #Trump has more similar views to #Russian president than to #European leaders. #America has left the liberal server and joined the #authoritarian lobby, using a videogame metaphor. All of this happened in less than 100 days of #DonaldTrump ’s ruling. What will the next years bring, then?

"Clearly, something is sabotaging society’s rational development. We should have those trains, and some big solar-powered apartment buildings near the stations. Even if I think the solutions are probably closer to agroecology than indoor vertical farming and giant sailboats than green jetliners, that doesn’t stop me from agreeing with the Abundance authors that there’s a block. But where Klein and Thompson blame self-seeking “groups” who—according to the work of economist Mancur Olson—are a constant and unavoidable threat to human collective action, Marxists understand capitalist production as riven by particular ironies and contradictions.

For example: capital is reluctant to enter industries that are easy to enter, for fear competition will drive out the profit. The abundant solution to a lack of housing is to make it easier for developers to build for increased density: the more units that come onto the market, the less landlords will be able to charge. But the same supply mechanism that pushes down prices discourages capital from the sector."

To this I will add that #liberalism is a failed ideology. “Liberal democracy” is actually bourgeois democracy, which isn’t really democracy at all.

Under none of our presidents has "Government of the people, by the people, for the people" been true.
