what about #furiphone #pinephone or #purism #librem
also wondering if one shouldn't take to the pawnshops with a printout from https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ - at least being able to flash a non-shit (and optionally degoogled) os would be a decent baseline
Hey #privtech nerds and #PrivacyActives.
I’m looking to buy a new laptop that protects privacy and security, doesn’t force #AI #surveillance and #bloatware on me, and doesn’t fund the major #broligarchs (and by extension, #AutocracyInc.).
Has anyone tried #Librem by Purism, SPC ?
Gasp. I hope that it were true, but my heart has been broken by disappointment before (*cough*#librem*cough*). But I digress.
Can somebody give me a damn #Linux phone with #openfirmware, #gnome or #plasma mobile, a decent camera, mic and screen with enough processing, memory and storage to meet with modern self hosting in mind.
Indeed, who can deliver me my dream phone? I'd be ever so happy to know about it.

@AnimeAndVisial well my #PocoF1 lasts about 8 hours per charge, so you shouod probably carry a power bank like I did. There are also some quirk peculiar to my phone like not being able to receive calls on suspend and no camera drivers, but if you get an actual designed-for-Linux phone like the #PinePhone or #Librem those are not issues (besides maybe the battery life)
If you don't need full mainline, @praveen can probably tell you more about the #Droidian based #FuriPhoneFLX1
@purism Still wishing we could see them in physical stores worldwide, with versions at affordable prices even if those may be slower. It's a bit sad to support something I know I can't get, although the initiative is a lifesaver and a much needed thing: In a normal world #Purism / #Librem should explode to the popularity of #Apple devices, especially among those that us who understand the harm and danger to ourselves perpetrated under the hoax of safety by the powerful.
Break free from Big Tech. Our Librem devices offer a full ecosystem of privacy-respecting computing. True digital independence. #Librem #Purism #pureos

Purism makes premium phones, laptops, mini PCs and…
Purism@luana Using a #Librem 5 with #phosh (on #Debian based distros) since several years. All the common bits (phone calls, SMS, mobile data, GPS positioning, proximity and orientations sensors, leds, haptic feedback, cameras, …) etc work.
The app ecosystem (as mentioned in this thread) is growing and has nice options already. Camera usage has some quirks (userspace / app limitations) but there's 3A (thanks @pavel) so "point and shoot".

plans
so im thinking of buying a new phone around august.. i was thinking of a linux phone where i can use opensuse or similar on it specifically kde plasma mobile.
thoughts? suggestions?
@purism When can you finally start selling in stores worldwide? In this depressing day and age, one of the few good things we could have is walking into a local mall and alongside all the #Apple and #Google phones seeing #Librem #Purism devices that can be bought then and there like everything else.
@realcaseyrollins
The #Librem 5 is currently on sale for $650, so it is slightly out of your range. I don't think it does #LineageOS, but I could be wrong about that. It runs #PureOS out of the box, but it will also run #PostmarketOS and #Mobian.
It does have a 3.5mm jack.
Do I know anyone who has used a librem11 (or maybe one of their other devices)? I love the ethos, but it's been a *very* long time since I used linux in a "you need to install things yourself" sense (I use it regularly at work, but I can't touch the software on that computer) and I'm trying to figure out if it would just be a nightmare to install apps on if I wasn't a regular linux user.
@arstechnica although it's exciting to see #RISCV hitting the big time, the mention of #QualcommSnapDragon makes me worry it is likely to be so encumbered with proprietary SoC add-ons as to make the open nature of RISC-V moot.
Well, even if it is unlikely to benefit #purism #librem phones, maybe it will be of some benefit to #FairPhone?
@mcc also, Puri.sm? I purchased a #Librem 13 which worked well. Not stellar, but good enough build quality.
#Purism has done some world-changing things, and their #PureOS PureOS.net is ‘purer’ than #Debian. They upstream everything which can be. (The #convergent focus means you are almost certainly already using some of their #code.)
But unit price is how they pay to improve the #Linux community software. Also, the #L13 does not survive saltwater immersion test.
Gabe es nicht mal irgendwo eine Seite, wo ich für PinePhone / Librem die Linux Anwendungen sehen konnte? Also "linux mobile" apps?
----
Wasn't there a page somewhere where I could see the Linux applications for PinePhone / Librem? So "linux mobile" apps?
I'm thinking about #Librem for my next laptop. Thoughts? #techreviews #os #newcomputer #acquisition #devices #dev
