#DevLog: #Anklang: Testing #SolidJS

🚀 Migrated our main UI shell from #Lit to Solid
⚡ Using Signals definitely made dealing with reactivity easier
🧩 This is still a test migration to get a basic feel, but it looks like a significant improvement overall

In #Anklang, we have been running into warnings from #Lit like:

> Element scheduled an update (generally because a property was set) after an update completed, causing a new update to be scheduled.

You should be good unless you see a warning directing you here:

Reactive properties – Lit

Simple. Fast. Web Components.

I have a position open on my team at Adobe for a senior frontend focused developer with #webcomponents (preferably lit) experience!

Small team, building a new product as part of an incubation organization. Lots to do, and lots of interesting things to build!

React-like functional webcomponents, but with vanilla HTML, JS and CSS

Introducing Dim – a new #Framework that brings #ReactJS-like functional #JSX-syntax with #VanillaJS. Check it out here:
🔗 Project: github.com/positive-intentions
🔗 Website: dim.positive-intentions.com

My journey with #WebComponents started with Lit, and while I appreciated its native browser support (less #Tooling!), coming from #ReactJS, the class components felt like a step backward. The #FunctionalProgramming approach in React significantly improved my #DeveloperExperience and debugging flow.

So, I set out to build a thin, functional wrapper around #Lit, and Dim is the result! It's a #ProofOfConcept right now, with "main" #Hooks similar to React, plus some custom ones like useStore for #EncryptionAtRest. (Note: #StateManagement for encryption-at-rest is still unstable and currently uses a hardcoded password while I explore #Passwordless options like #WebAuthn/#Passkeys).

You can dive deeper into the #Documentation and see how it works here:
📚 Dim Docs: positive-intentions.com/docs/c

This #OpenSource project is still in its early stages and very #Unstable, so expect #BreakingChanges. I've already received valuable #Feedback on some functions regarding #Security, and I'm actively investigating those. I'm genuinely open to all feedback as I continue to develop it!

@humanhorseshoes Oh, thanks, sorry, wrong country sign, meant #lit. Those are my personal fav, because they are so close to alternative. That’s my music.

#lit now in my music list, absolutely my style. 🤩

My first attempt at lith printing

I used Moersch Easy Lith, parts A+B+D and Fomatone fibre paper. The top print is a normal print for comparison. The lith print turned out too yellow/red for my taste, so I toned it in Selenium toner. I'm quite pleased with my first attempt.

300 lines of translated text later, my #lit web components project is localized to a French Canadian near you.

Localization always invites interesting questions—like #Canada apparently uses both short scale and long scale?!

If you write "3,5 billion", that's a very different number from "3.5 billion." Canada uses short scale, but Quebec uses long scale. French Canadian is spoken across Canada and if you're speaking French might affect things. Maybe a Mastodon Canadian could help me understand.
