Goosander (female or juvenile) on my #LocalPatch bit of the Thames just south of Oxford yesterday morning. Diving with some success for a fish breakfast. Very pleased Judith encouraged me out of the house.
#lowcarbonbirding #localpatch update - a red footed falcon (juvenile) has been sitting there today, a new species added after several weeks - let´s see what the autumn brings - now at #142 at local patch
I have failed to get a good photo of spotted flycatchers on my #LocalPatch despite seeing them reasonably frequently. Yesterday had good views of a a family group flying in and out of a small tree catching flies (obvs). But in New Forest not local patch.

Very quiet on the birding front on #LocalPatch but did get a nice dragonfly - I think its a Migrant Hawker from comparing to other images (correct or confirm if you know your dragonflies - I'm in Oxford, UK).

Greenfinch father getting breakfast for young yesterday.
They are a red list species so glad to see evidence of breeding and frequently seen on #LocalPatch. They will regularly visit our seed feeders through autumn to spring.

Yesterday's early morning #LocalPatch walk started with sunbeams inviting me down the lane. Lots of gold crest, whitethroat, chaffinch and blackcaps about.

Seems to be a distinct change of behaviour with reed warblers on #LocalPatch. Higher up in the reeds and much more visible. Presume this is tied into young fledging. Photos from this morning's walk.

Reed warblers were a bit more obliging this morning on #LocalPatch. Multiple birds staying a bit higher in the reeds & giving my a chance. Lots of chatter between what I took to be parent and young.

Nice after work walk with daughter Erin yesterday on #LocalPatch. Went out looking for Egyptian geese which she has not seen - still.
But Erin did spot a #Kingfisher, and quickly realised it was actually three of them (parent and 2 juveniles).
We were late home for tea...
Cetti's warblers are wonderful feature on #LocalPatch. Often not easy to see - mostly quite and hiding away. But when they sing they are loud!
This one today out in the open more than usual.
Yesterday morning's #LocalPatch walk turned up clear but distant views of a treecreeper again. While after work early evening walk gave me nice views of kingfisher.
Off to see what this morning brings.
Yesterday morning's #LocalPatch walk started with hearing and then eventually seeing treeecreepers within 100m of the front door. Hard to know how many there were (counted 2 on eBird but probs more). Constant tzeee-tzeee sounds all around me. Little bridge camera struggled in low light.

Long-tailed tit - lollipop. Lots of nicknames for these little birds. Family groups chirupping away to each other on #LocalPatch this morning.

Wanting a bit of help with #BirdID.
Think I had a lesser whitethroat on #LocalPatch just south of Oxford. No photo but did get sound. Bird was flitting back and forth on hedgerow (image below is a few hundred metres away).
Getting to hear and see a male cuckoo pretty frequently on #LocalPatch. This pic from yesterday morning in one of its favourite trees.
Numbers are in decline globally, and they have been on the UK Red List since 2009.
Sedge warblers seemed to have quietened down over the last couple of weeks on #LocalPatch. But this morning one was head back and full on singing. Couple of short display flights too. Glorious to watch in the early sunshine.

Common Whitethroat enjoying some sunshine early this morning on #LocalPatch It refused to let me have a completely clear shot always keeping at least one stem between it and the camera.

Sunshine promised yesterday didn't really materialise but has eventually broken through on #LocalPatch today. Multiple sets of goslings and ducklings out enjoying the warmth.
A while back I thought I'd seen something disappear into a small hole in a oak tree on my #LocalPatch. This morning I caught somebody home.
Two adult birds seen coming and going. You may be getting a few blue tit photos over the next weeks.
Nice to see common terns visiting #LocalPatch. Always great to spend a bit of time watching them fishing in the Thames. This was early morning breakfast a few days ago. Its mate was on the next post and seemed to be pleading 'share, share'. No chance!
