Looking at some old pictures. Here's an elementary school computer lab I worked with in 2009. We repurposed their older PCs as thin clients, booting up to a central server running Ubuntu LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project). Ubuntu 8.04 IIRC.

We did this to all 7 of their schools' computer labs. It was a blast!

Thin client was a great technology here, it meant old donated computers could be refurbished well because they didn't need the mechanical parts that failed first on computers.
You just needed one powerful machine to drive them all.

To make the #LTSP setup a little easier, we would use drive mirroring to set up servers for each school.

The first year or so, I just did things that way, making improvements here and there.

Dzisiaj kolejna klasa od rana walczy ze mną z edytorem #OnlyOffice i #LibreOffice. Oczywiście screen z #Epoptes na #Linux i #Ltsp.

La semana pasada conseguí por fin hacer que la placa #rockpi 4C+ que compré para intentar sustituir las #raspberrypi (que están a precio de angula y con plazos de entrega de meses) arrancaran con #ltsp.

Me faltan un par de detallicos por pulir (redimensionar el tamaño de la imagen) pero en líneas generales creo que reproducible es.

He aprendido un montón de cosas por el camino (qué es #uboot, #pxe_boot y otro buen puñado de cosas), pero me queda muuuuu mal cuerpo al darme cuenta de que lo he hecho prácticamente por fuerza bruta, ensayo y error hasta que ha funcionado... ¡Qué pena no saber bien lo que uno está haciendo!

On di oder jan, la verdad es que la mejora de la Rockpi frente a la Raspberry es espectacular (Bueno, al menos de la 4C+ frente a la 3), puedes usar un navegador normal entre otras cosas... y de precio ya ni hablamos.

Así es que ahora toca adquirir las otras 6 Rockpi y ver si las puedo meter en una buena carcasa IP67 ¡y a muestrear!

I also maintain #LTSP in #Debian which uses #iPXE extensively, and I usually test both #EFI and #BIOS booting of thin clients... but I have not tested it for almost a year ago now, when I did the last ltsp upload.

I have tossed all of mine, but at one point I had something like 30 of them. I used them for terminals at conventions (bought cheap, hacked the BIOS, put LTSP software on them, instant X terminal!)
