I've just released an update to Man Reader - my Mac app that provides a GUI for reading man pages.

All the details about the update are here: troz.net/post/2025/man-reader- but the main feature of this release is that it stops the app from crashing when you type fast into the search field.

You can buy or update via the Mac App Store at apps.apple.com/app/id522583774

And yet it seems to be common practice nowadays to ask google how to do something, find a shell command on some arbitrary web site, and copy/paste it onto the local machine without ever understanding what it does.

If you're on a unix box and need to access the terminal (for any reason whatsoever) but don't know the basics of a shell (sh/bash/zsh/etc), you have a problem.

As for LLM, the only concern I would have is whether the `tmuxai` command can be assured to run the command it says it's running. I don't see any issue with `rm -i ./logs/debug-*.log`, especially with the `-i` flag present.

You can adjust the spacing between macOS menu bar status items by changing NSStatusItemSpacing, e.g.:

defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain NSStatusItemSpacing -int 8

I wish there was a way to set this value on a per-screen basis (laptop vs monitor).

Tip of the day: Quality assurance is a top priority in the development of our applications. Nevertheless, misbehavior can sometimes occur, leading to an application crashing or stalling. To investigate and fix the issue, we need a report with some information about it. Here’s how you can support us with that. #devonagent #devonthink #macos #pkm #productivity #research #tipoftheday #troubleshooting #websearch devontechnologies.com/blog/202

would you give LLM (AI) to run commands on your macOS, Linux, FreeBSD or Unix machine? Fuck no. I survived this long without this crap and I will be fine. Do not want. Go away.

Laurent Clevy first released adflib in 1999 in version 0.7.8. The portable C library, written mainly in C, is used to manage Amiga-formatted devices such as hard disks and ZIP disks or to swap them out via the .ADF format. The library is currently being developed under the responsibility of Tomasz Wolak. Changes in version 0.10.0:

Welp, #PewDiePie has opened the floodgates to the #Linux community now that he's actually done a full video explaining his move to Linux, why he did it, and why he thinks others should ditch #Windows.

I honestly expected a
nothing burger video with not much meaning/input to it, esp to someone who's already on Linux, but his points were pretty interesting. Some of his takeaways:

- He was tired of
#Microsoft's bullshit concerning ads, #AI slop, and bloat - and how he really supports the idea of #FOSS, and gave the example of how cool it is that #Valve saw the issue on putting all of their/our eggs (shares) in Windows' basket and addressed that by building on top of an existing FOSS project, #Wine to then develop #Proton, which as a result has unlocked and enabled the expansive #gaming scene that we have today, not just for the #SteamDeck but all Linux users as a whole.

- He, surprisingly loves the customisation aspect of Linux and how everything is modular - which meant we could change things like the GUI (desktop environment) and customise it as desired. He even (appropriately) used the term,
ricing lol.

- He, even more surprisingly, loves the fact that there are many Linux distros to choose from - when some find this to be somewhat a
hurdle. He highlighted how you should just pick one and move forward, which is often true - this choice doesn't really matter as much these days (if ever). His choice was #LinuxMint, the distro he's tried 15 years ago.

- He noted how, like anything, Linux isn't perfect and there may be sacrifice(s) needed - like how some apps may only be available on Windows, for
#macOS, and likewise for Linux. His sacrifice was #Adobe #Photoshop, but he was happy to ditch the thing (which costed him 60 USD just to unsubscribe), and his chosen alternative was... #GIMP - I know some might not agree, but he liked it 😂

- He mentioned how searching (locally) on Windows is garbage, and everyone knows that's just... objectively true. Like him, I too was amazed how local search actually JUST WORKS and is super fast on Linux, unlike on Windows or macOS.

- He noted how goddamn easy and intuitive installing/updating/managing apps are on Linux by using the system's package manager (app store), rather than having to look up the app installer online and dodging all of the shady sites with malwares and so on.

- As if this wasn't enough, Pewds really went down a fucking rabbit hole, almost putting to 'shame' for most, all
average Linux users (incl myself) by literally installing/using #ArchLinux on his laptop, which is normal, 'cept he's not using a regular DE like #KDE or #Gnome but he instead, opted for a tiling manager, #Hyprland with #Rofi, #Waybar and all lol.

Anyway, it's a pretty cool video - and I underestimated Pewds' love for tinkering and using the terminal, so much so that I hope his users don't think that they
actually need to use the terminal for the things he did haha.

Still working through #linux switch from #macos. With #emacs and #ssh keys in place, everything is going well. There are some key binding antics I'm coping with, but really I use 3 apps: browser, emacs, and terminal.

Idly considering switching to #KeePass (specifically to #OneKeePass, because it runs on #Linux, #MacOS and #iPhone), switching from #1Password. I like 1Password, it works well enough that it's one of only two software subscriptions I have, but I like to keep my options open.

Can anyone share experiences, whether good or bad, of KeePass in general, and migrating from 1Password to KeePass specifically?
