Looking for some information on the Osiris Rex mission (which recently found amino acids on the asteroid Bennu), I ran into this paper about #mining #asteroids for food.
And I just can't run into a cool #SciFi applicable paper without sharing.

Also, #OsirisRex is a really interesting mission in general, with some really cool recent discoveries (above-mentioned amino acids), and you should look it up.

An early study of the asteroid Bennu sample revealed presence of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, sulfur and organic compounds, all essential components for life as we know it. The sample mirrors the type of rock found at mid-ocean ridges on Earth, where material from Earth's mantle encounters water.

Also, magnesium-sodium phosphate was detected, which hints of Bennu's origin being an ancient, primitive ocean world!

An article published in the journal "Meteoritics & Planetary Science" reports the results of the preliminary analysis of the samples of material from asteroid Bennu brought back to Earth by NASA's OSIRIS-REx space probe. A team of researchers conducted analyzes of the samples, finding a lot of carbon and nitrogen together with organic compounds, all very important components for life forms of the Earth's type.
