brainfucksecThank you #linux community for being so helpful choosing a browser in lieu of #firefox!
The best options look like #librewolf, #ZenBrowser, and #palemoon.
The problem a lot of you have brought up is that adopting a Firefox fork means relying on the Firefox repo, i.e if it suddenly disappeared these projects would have trouble. That's where Palemoon comes in. It's based on an older fork of Firefox, and uses its own rendering engine: Goanna. However, it's UI is... interesting, so we'll see.
@gabrielesvelto #palemoon is supporting old OS versions too :) https://www.palemoon.org/download.shtml
Tell HN: Cloudflare is blocking Pale Moon and other non-mainstream browsers

Gave #PaleMoon a try thanks to a helpful suggestion from @niutech. Forked from Firefox a long time ago, and now quite distinct from it. Sadly, the type doesn’t render as well as on Firefox or Chromium, but for a lot of people who care less about such things, I can see it being a really decent browser. Way more than some others I’ve tried lately. Thank you, Niu Tech, that was a good lead.
It turns out that I didn't need to wipe my browser installation to get sound and video working again.
They both failed a while back; IDK when, exactly.
On a hunch, I looked at the AV library packages in the #Debian repos. They're all at version 7.* but the older 6.* versions are still available.
On a hunch, I reinstalled the older libraries and, hey presto! Sound was working. :-) Weirdly, although videos played, there was no picture, only sound.
@jon I'll bite.
Does anyone use #Falkon or #Palemoon?
I use #Vivaldi (Snapshot) for stock trading, #LibraWolf to watch Twitch, & #FireDragon as my main browser.
@dangoodin My default browser is #PaleMoon. The other is #LibreWolf.
Pale Moon is an Open Source, Mozilla-derived web browser…
www.palemoon.orgDue to unforeseen circumstances, this will be the official SNS account for #PaleMoon in the #fediverse. You should probably already be following this account if you've followed the previous one since I did the account migration process, but if not you can always re-follow. Please #boost this toot for reach!
(Hopefully this will be temporary, since I still prefer Pleroma/Akkoma... The account approval request in another Akkoma instance still hadn't got a reply so I had to move to this #Mastodon to preserve my follows. ~job)
Would it be too much to ask various #Mozilla #Firefox forks: #palemoon #waterfox #LibreWolf #iceweasel etc to join forces and chart an independent path, not just for catching up in #browser tech, but actually developing it in the right direction?
