As search engines & productivity tools keep regurgitating the same slop, we move toward “an orthodoxy that ruthlessly narrows public thought”. Generative AI & their hidden algorithms are hacking away at 3 things that human organizations need to learn, innovate, & adapt — diversity > learning > trust ...
So keep on producing human-generated writing, like blogs, & use social media that is not algorithmically generated, like Mastodon.
Tip of the day: In a another post on smart rules, we discussed how to organize #DEVONthink documents in an automated fashion. In this post we briefly touched on the File action, but some people have wondered why not just use the Move action. Here’s the difference between the two. #automation #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20220802-filing-and-moving

I enjoyed reading @writingslowly 's post on the pros and cons of publishing all our notes online; working with the garage door up.
My take is that no one needs to see the literary equivalent of us in our underwear! some parts of the thinking process may be best left behind closed doors.

No one needs to see the literary equivalent of us in…
ellanew.comCurrently I have 79MB of .org files in ~/org. That's 7608 files, 1631829 lines of text, 83849 headlines, and 8339921 words. The largest single file is 1.4MB and the longest lined file has 26370 lines.
Tip of the day: In many documents, there is a need to divide content, breaking it into discrete sections. Navigating those sections can be done with the help of a table of contents. Fortunately, #DEVONthink can display such a table in certain documents. Here’s how you can use it. #devonthinktogo #pdf #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20220920-table-of-contents
If Obsidian users are willing to spend some time with a good LLM and install Python, you can do some cool things to your vault. I used it to remove all emojis from file names and to move inline properties to YAML. #Obsidian #ObsidianMD #PKM
Just published my book for $0 using @obsdmd, Pandoc & Calibre—and turned it into EPUB, PDF, and audiobook.
In this video I walk you through the full workflow + share all the files: https://youtu.be/nYReYJQfqjI

For Mac and iOS users of Obsidian, you can really level up the integration of many OS features via Shortcuts using Actions for Obsidian. According to my stats, I've used it 1894 times. #Obsidian #ObsidianMD #PKM

ActionsDotWork.
I love Fridays because not only is it the end of the week, it's the day where I get to indulge in my PKM obsession by closing off my week's work by documenting it in my productivity system. It's still work, but it's also fun haha.
I'm such a nerd ;D
Five steps to improve critical thinking:
1. Formulate your question
2. Gather information
3. Apply the information
4. Consider the implications
5. Explore other points of view
Tip of the day: We are big advocates of being diligent in your backups, especially if your data is important to you. Full and incremental machine backups are a great idea, but you may want a specific backup for the data of our apps too. Here is, how you do that. #backups #devonagent #devonthink #pkm #productivity #research #tipoftheday #websearch https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20250204-backup-data
Any #PKM people have the Bear app (iOS) subscription and enjoy it? I’ve been doing a lot of my personal note taking (especially writing of blog drafts) and considering it for the sync alone.
Tip of the day: Annotations are text documents in #DEVONthink that are attached to another document, for example a #PDF. They are a simple but powerful tool for making notes about a document and can therefore be used for everything from research to schoolwork to journaling and more. Here’s an introduction, or a refresher. #notetaking #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20221129-annotations-in-devonthink
A PKM should be simple and user-friendly, enhancing the use of pen and paper rather than replacing it. It shouldn't just cater to power users. Overloading it with features can make it less appealing. Let's keep it intuitive! #PKM #Productivity
