Was preparing slides for a talk yesterday, when when one of the recipients asked if I could adjust some the graphs to make them easier to read. Turns out I'd made my deck needlessly difficult for people with #colorblindness

I was shown how to check my images for #accessibility using #Adobe Illustrator.

The bottom graph is how the image would look for people with (#protanopia) (red-green color blindness).

It helps to differentiate by brightness level in addition to color.

Those of us with colour blindness, do you use colour correction on your devices? I fiddled with it on my #pixel and now that plasma wayland supports it, I'm considering turning it on.

And these are three porfiles for rgb, protanopia, and deuteranopia, including two palettes for each profile, the TMS VDP palette and the ZX Spectrum palette.

A test card to help make GUI elements remain at least minimally accessible to most colour-blind people, given the strict limitations of the Spectrum palette.

It shows that the often-used method of rotating the palette to simulate a fade-to-black effect looks terrible to some colour-blind people who are unable to distinguish some colour hues.

When in doubt... white, grey, black, medium blue, and lemon yellow are relatively "safe" approximates for most people.

Hey, has anyone ever checked what color normal little discrete LEDs are seen as being by colorblind people? (not the special ones in LED TV's and screens)

Given (unless I'm mistaken!) they often emit a different spectra than the combination of RGB phosphors/subpixels that—trichromats at least—see as being equivalent!

Dogs are partly (red-green) color bind. If you want to know what your dog sees, install the app "Chromatic Vision Simulator" on your phone.

Select option P (protanopia), point the camera towards something colorful and you will see things from the dog's perspective.

You will quickly notice that the choices we make when it comes to the color of toys often aren't the best.

One of the challenges of making good #maps is choosing colours that work well for those with colour deficiency. To help I use a simulator on my phone.

I tried it out at the grocery store and was surprised by how everything looked yellow.

These photos are for severe red green blindness (#protanopia).
