This post is the beginning of a thread of previous monthly #PureOS development reports:

I enjoyed reading all of them. It is great that the development can be followed in such a transparant way.

The above linked article explains the current status of the #PureOS development. It starts with the foundation and infrastructure. It describes how packages are synchronized from #Debian, how some packages are improved (for #MobileLinux), and it describes newly identified issues.

The work on upgrading the operating system for the #Librem5 Linux phone is progressing well.

The work on this is funded by #Purism and people that have totally optional PureOS subscriptions.

The name of the official Purism #Linux distribution for the Librem5 is #PureOS.

The current version is #Byzantium, the next version will be #Crimson.

Taking an PureOS subscription helps funding.

There is huge progress lately, read the progress report for March 2025 here:

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

Did you know that @purism is working towards a new release for the #Librem5 #FOSS phone?

The name of this new version is #Crimson. Crimson will be the next version of the PureOS #Linux distribution for the Librem 5.

#Purism only earns once money on their sell of a #phone, because Purism is not selling your data.

Since July 2024 you can take an optional subscription to advance the #PureOS development.

Since then there has been a monthly report on the progress.

Great to read the #monthly PureOS #Crimson development report for February 2025: improved SD card stability on suspend.

Thanks to all people who support this effort with totally optional PureOS subscriptions. And of course also thanks to all people who work on this!

Here you can support the improvement of #PureOS, the #Linux distribution that is provided by @purism for the

@furilabs nice, nice, so #FuriOS is just like #SailfishOS or #PureOS, #Mobian, #PostmarketOS, ... yeah, it's a marketing post ;)
But (for me much more important) are you planning a second phone with for example a #Rockchip or at least a #Snapdragon SoC? Or do you just planning to use #Gigaset Smartphones as your base platform?

Can anybody who has used both PostmarketOS and PureOS on their Librem 5 state what, if any, advantages I would see moving from PureOS to PMOS ? I am familiar with both and have no serious dislikes of either. Just not sure it will be worth my weekend to do it.

Hi @phosh, I'm currently running #Mobian with #Phosh on a #Librem5. It looks great and works very well. Thanks for all this great work!

I have a question though, because I'm not a big fan of background images. Is it be possible to completely disable the background image and have just a black background (or could a plain black background be added)?

I like the very clean non-distracting black background like it currently is on #PureOS Byzantium.
