#ZFS is actually more fun than it seemed now that I understood the difference between pool and dataset and how to mirror vdevs. I guess I wil have to copy all my data twice now to move onto a mirror setup. I am now rethinking how to do this as my primary need for #RAID is to ensure integrity for my backups from cloud services I host / manage.

Components or machines should avoid as many parts as possible from big tech Bros. That means all for recommendations before should be ignored.
AMD instead of Intel and Nvidia is more compatible with Linux as it supports it.

I'll keep my current stuff as it does not make sense to throw functional parts away, but I'll consider this on next sets.

Nel primo venerdì di Ramadan l’esercito israeliano ha assaltato e incendiato la moschea di Al-Nasr, monumento storico della Città Vecchia di Nablus, distruggendo gli alloggi dell’imam. Secondo testimoni, i soldati avrebbero impedito ai vigili del fuoco di intervenire per spegnere le fiamme.
NON È STATA l’unica moschea ad essere attaccata. Durante il raid di Nablus i militari hanno preso d’assalto sei luoghi di culto. Il direttore delle dotazioni della città, durante un sopralluogo insieme al sindaco e al governatore, ha dichiarato che attacchi del genere non avvenivano dalla Nakba del 1948 e che riflettono il disprezzo israeliano per le norme religiose, morali e internazionali.
Secondo l’Unrwa, l’agenzia delle Nazioni unite per i rifugiati palestinesi, i campi profughi della Cisgiordania settentrionale sono stati quasi completamente svuotati dei loro residenti. Jenin, Tulkarem e Nur Shams sono attaccati e vandalizzati dall’esercito israeliano dal 21 gennaio, quando Tel Aviv ha deciso di lanciare una imponente operazione militare nella Cisgiordania occupata. I militari stanno portando avanti una campagna di detonazioni controllate per demolire decine di abitazioni. Ieri a Jenin un palestinese è rimasto ferito quando l’automobile su cui viaggiava è stata colpita da un mezzo blindato, mentre due giovani di 16 e 17 anni sono stati attaccati durante un raid a Ramallah. Un’inchiesta congiunta di Guardian e +972 Magazine rivela che l’esercito dello stato ebraico ha realizzato uno strumento di intelligenza artificiale simile a ChatGPT e contenente milioni di intercettazioni telefoniche effettuate nei Territori palestinesi occupati. I soldati potranno porre domande incrociate per monitorare spostamenti e abitudini di combattenti, attivisti e di quasi ogni abitante della Cisgiordania.
GLI ATTACCHI non si sono fermati neanche a Gaza. Israele ha bombardato il nord della Striscia, dichiarando di aver colpito un gruppo di persone mentre sistemava un ordigno. Due palestinesi sono stata uccisi a Shujayea, a Gaza City.
Gli Houthi dello Yemen hanno rilasciato ieri un avvertimento per Tel Aviv, minacciando di riprendere le operazioni navali contro Israele se entro quattro giorni non ricomincerà l’ingresso degli aiuti umanitari nell’enclave palestinese.
NEL TENTATIVO di fare pressione al governo israeliano perché accetti di entrare nella seconda fase della tregua come previsto dagli accordi, Hamas ha pubblicato ieri il video di uno degli ostaggi trattenuti a Gaza. Matan Angrest, di 21 anni, nel filmato si rivolge al governo, dichiarando che continuare i negoziati è «l’unico modo per riportarci indietro».
La situazione a Gaza diventa più critica ogni ora che passa. Non solo per il blocco di aiuti umanitari e carburante ma anche a causa del taglio dei fondi all’Usaid. Secondo l’Associated Press le riduzioni operate dal presidente Usa rischiano di far perdere tutti i progressi ottenuti durante il cessate il fuoco: Washington si era impegnata a finanziare una grande parte degli aiuti a Gaza ma le organizzazioni internazionali dichiarano di non aver ricevuto il supporto promesso.
Intanto, dall’Egitto fanno sapere che una delegazione di Hamas è giunta al Cairo per tentare di riprendere i colloqui sul cessate il fuoco. Le richieste del gruppo islamico includerebbero il ritiro completo di Israele da Gaza e la ricostruzione dell’enclave, come previsto dal piano arabo presentato il 4 marzo.
Situazione tesa anche in Libano. L’esercito di Tel Aviv ha permesso a centinaia di coloni di entrare nel sud del Paese, in una delle zone che Israele occupa nonostante l’impegno di sgomberare entro il 18 febbraio.
L’ESERCITO libanese ha denunciato la violazione della sovranità territoriale quando i coloni, protetti e accompagnati dai militari, hanno superato il confine per visitare una tomba che ritengono appartenga al rabbino Ashi.

Ever accidentally blow away your /boot partition?

dpkg -S /boot

will list what packages were written there. then you can do an 'apt-get --reinstall install <pkgs>' to fix it... This is Debian. Probably similarly for pacman, apk, emerge, etc.

So, why do I mention this?

Was replacing a failed drive (md RAID 1 root) in my garage "Artoo" unit and was duping the partitions from working to new ssd.

I guess I dd'ed the new empty /boot to the old working /boot. I was aiming for the UEFI partition...

Big dummy! LOL

Oh well. No one died, move along, nothing to see here. System is back up again now and in sleep mode for the rest of the night.

hey hey #Linux #FileSystem #ZFS #RAID #XFS entities! I'm looking for extremely opinionated discourses on alternatives to ZFS on Linux for slapping together a #JBOD ("Just a Bunch Of Disks", "Just a Buncha Old Disks", "Jesus! Buncha Old Disks!", etc) array.

I like ZFS but the fact that it's not in tree in-kernel is an issue for me. What I need most is reliability and stability (specifically regarding parity) here; integrity is the need. Read/write don't have to be blazingly fast (not that I'm mad about it).

I also have one #proxmox ZFS array where a raw disk image is stored for a #Qemu #VirtualMachine; in the VM, it's formatted to XFS. That "seems" fine in limited testing thus far (and quite fast, so it does seem like the defaults got the striping correct) but I kind of hate how I have multiple levels of abstraction here.

I don't think there's been any change on the #BTRFS front re: raid-like array stability (I like and use BTRFS for single disk filesystems but) although I would love for that to be different.

I'm open to #LVM, etc, or whatever might help me stay in tree and up to date. Thank you! Boosts appreciated and welcome.

Однажды к нам обратился клиент с проблемой: имеется 2 HDD с производительностью записи 250 MБ/с. Из них делается хранилище RAID 0. Начинаем записывать трафик, скорость — 350 MБ/с. Он успешно пишется, но через некоторое время утилизация дисков подходит к 100% и начинаются потери при записи. Вывод клиента: проблема в PT NAD, так как диски должны все успевать. Думаю, многие уже догадываются, в чем соль. У нас тоже имелись догадки, но тем не менее мы решили их проверить. Из этой проблемы и родилось небольшое исследование по записи трафика в хранилище.
