Factors:
1. Accessibility. Not everyone has really fast (or stable) internet.
2. Environmental. There's no reason to use more computing power than necessary for the task at hand. It's wasteful. Very few people need the fancy features advanced text editors introduce.
3. Interoperability. Text files I write and send are readable *everywhere.* Try loading up Google Docs on a 1024x768 screen with a 256MB RAM Pentium 3. You'll be lucky if Google Docs even loads.
4. Privacy. A text file is easy to protect. GPG is the most straightforward. It remains small, and there's no way middle-men can read it. Google Docs? Google has root and they're not encrypted from them. So, good luck.
5. Account requirements. Text files require no accounts anywhere. All you need it an Internet connection and a DNS server that'll point your computer the right way. SaaS requires that you also have up-to-date software, a powerful computer, and that you register an account with them to access files shared with you.
6. Storage space. A text file takes kilobytes. A .docx file takes megabytes. My daily journal, which granted has some meta-data but is still plain text, is nearing on 580kb after three years of diligent, detailed journaling. I can't help but doubt that Word would even open a .docx file that large if formatted natively. (Thousands of headings, links, timestamps, etc.)
6. Feature-set. Plain text lets you do enough for 99% of all tasks. Yes, it's not as pretty, but within the bounds of putting characters into a file, you have complete freedom. Proprietary services, on the other hand, have a very very rich feature-set, most of which is irrelevant for 99% of users. The drawback of this is that every user is forced to load these rarely-used functions onto their own computer when the applications load up. That's wasteful, and likely cost the world hundreds of millions in unnecessary energy expenditure already.
TL;DR: Use plain text unless you absolutely positively can't help it. It's seriously better in every way.

Normalize sending people plain text files instead of making them log in to proprietary services to read your two pages of notes.
There's zero reason to use things like Word or Google Docs for purely textual, written word.
There's zero reason why I should register with a service and use up a thousand (or more!!!!) times more bandwidth than I would if I downloaded your 2 kilobyte text file.
A direct link. Give me a direct link. Send me an email. Magic-wormhole it. Whatever.
Just be aware of the cost to the alternatives.
The fonts loaded by Google Docs alone could carry books and books worth of text. The javascript they push on end users itself is freaking massive.

@timcappalli oh don't worry there are commercial #PassKeys #SaaS services out there so lazy businesses don't have to implement it themselves... though I suspect it's more about liability or having a "throat to choke" than ease of implementation. Hmm... looking around and it seems there's a use-case for existing Authentication-as-a-Service customers to just turn on passkeys for an added fee.

I totally forgot about it. Messin' around w/ broken desktop clients, etc. This seems be a preferred solution. E.g. I never check this crazy old email account! But, lookee here! I'm on a new linux system, and I don't have to go about setting up an email client... yet.
Why didn't I continue to use it? Because I recally-- specifically, because methinking it was awesome to use-- Yahoo! reported that this feature would no longer be available.
However (brain damage) thinking about it, it might have been specific to GMX, or ... some kind of [other server issue]
Truth be told, I suppose you can do that with gmail as well. And I know "outlook" (MS Mail, desktop whatever) let's you add all of your accounts. But that's not really the same. As, I'm on a new linux box, and i didn't have to set up an email client. yet.

It's worse than any #IRC, #Mumble or even the old #TeamSpeak & #Skype for that matter.
It combines the disadvantages of #Forum, #paywalled #documentation, #chat and #voicechat with 0 redeeming qualities (unlike #Zulip & Mumble & #XMPP+#OMEMO) it's just an #InformationBlackhole!
I'm shure fecking #dread has better moderation and I'd rather use #MicrosoftTeams + #Slack cuz those at least have proper #moderation tools.
And I'd rather subscribe to the #LKML and see my inbox getting hosed than using any shitty #SaaS!
Case in point: I'd rather #SelfHost all my comms infrastructure than to ever use something like Discord or any other #GDPR-violating SaaS that is just enshittification.
I'd rather recommend people to instead choose a tool that does everything but horrible to go with multiple smaller & good tools

The sheer fact that #Trump's #Tariffs are being analyzed as something to be rationalized is beyond me.
The fact that #Israel of all places who literally unilaterally declared 0% tariffs got no better deal than anyone else shows that one cannot negotiate with the Trumpist #Regime.
The @EUCommission led by #Zensursula even offered equal tariffs, but that's gonna get declined as well.
TBH, it's high time the @europarl_en enacts a #PrizeFreeze on #US-owned & controlled #products & #services (similar to the #OilPriceCap against #Russia) and enacts a 400% #tariff on #CCSS (#commercial closed-source #software) and 500% on #services (incl. #payments, #hostng, #cloud, #SaaS and #tech) as well as introduce a 250% #CapitalExportTax to the #USA or US-controlled subsidiaries to combat #TaxAvoidance and #TaxMitigations like #DoubleDurch (#CVBV) and "#licensing" loopholes to bleed EU-based subsidiaries dry of taxable #profits!
And don't forget everything else to have #TariffEqulibrium!
Also it's high time #Galileo gets upgraded from a #SBAS to a real #GNSS that isn't designed weaker than #GPS, but better!
