Driving by the golf course saw there was white birds mixed in with all the Canada Geese. Pulled over, but couldn't quite get a good photo of them. Came back later, asked the Pro Shop guy if I could go out there and he gave me the key to a cart (!). So, I got some nice close up shots of snow geese.

Foraging break. Late winter in our neck of the woods means it’s Snow Geese time.

Approximately a zillion #CacklingGeese coming in to land at the Tualatin River #NationalWildlifeRefuge this afternoon. Sound on for the full effect! Other birds today included a #NorthernHarrier lass cruising past at eye level, a distant flock of #WesternMeadowlark flushing up from the field, groups of #TundraSwan and #SnowGoose, faraway #GreaterYellowlegs and #Killdeer, a #GoldenCrownedKinglet practically in my pocket, and a white-belly second year #BaldEagle piccoloing overhead.

Snow Geese Grazing
Bosque del Apache NWR, NM
A short video from the north end of the pool of yesterday's photo. Here the geese were close to the road and not at all concerned with the cars and photographers stopped to observe.
A Sandhill Crane can be seen walking behind the geese and the tiny dark speck to the left of the crane is a coyote. A few geese are circling overhead.
[This is my 1st time to post a video, so let me know of any issues.]
Snow Geese
Bosque del Apache NWR, NM
Spent most of yesterday down at the refuge and saw many hundreds of these geese (if not thousands.) Photo from 2020.
Absolutely a gorgeous winter's day in central NM. Not a cloud in the sky; no wind. Beautiful views of birds, pools, fields, and surrounding low mountains. Shirtsleeve temperatures by early afternoon.
Haven't looked at my photos, yet, but suspect I have some nice ones to share in the coming days.
Morning at the Crane Pools
Bosque del Apache NWR, NM
Over two dozen Sandhill Cranes are standing in the icy pool—they spend the night there as protection against predators, such as coyote. Around them are many, many Snow Geese who also spent the night here. Very soon all will take to the sky to head off to forage in the neighboring fields.

An immature Snow Goose (greyish plumage, grey bill & legs) and adult (sharp white+black plumage, pink bill & legs) at Iona Beach Regional Park. There were a few dozen hanging out together here, and a few hundred honking away on the opposite shore, too far for good shots

Global NewsDozens of #SandhillCrane flying into a marsh filled with more Sandhill cranes. From #SauvieIsland, just north of Portland where the #WillametteRiver flows into the #ColumbiaRiver. We were fortunate to be there between rain showers. We also had excellent views of #BaldEagle, #HarrierHawk, #Kestrel, #SnowGoose, #Shoveler, #Widgeon, #CanvasBack, #Coot, #Swan, #Egret, and #GreatBlueHeron.
We went to see the winter birds in #SauvieIsland, most especially the #SandhillCranes. They are the largest species of crane in North America and their distinctive call is haunting. We also saw #BaldEagle, #HarrierHawk, #Kestrel, #SnowGoose, #CanadaGoose, #Coot, #ScrubJay, #RedwingBlackbird, #WesternMeadowlark, and a few others. What a gorgeous day!
If you go, don't forget to buy a wildlife parking permit at the store next to the bridge.
