One insidious aspect of the US/UK framework deal for trade negotiations is the issue of standards... it looks like (willingly?) the UK is considering a shift to de-allign standards (even if they are not diluted) various aspects of standards setting from European models & towards US standards setting.

If so, whatever Starmer says about not choosing between the US & EU, this would likely make any 'reset' in UK-EU relations harder, and less far reaching!

ISO 27000 nit #3. I had to stare at this for several minutes to try to figure out what "enhancing societal values" was doing in this list. IMO the meaning of all the other list items it clear, but that one's clear as mud. I _think_ what they're trying to get at is improving the security culture within the organization being managed, but honestly, that's just a guess, I'm not even certain that's what they mean.

ISO 27000 nit #2: The definition of "risk" provided here, "effect of uncertainty on objectives," is dumb, obscure, unhelpful, bureaucratic gobbledygook. It in no way resembles the dictionary definition of risk, which much more closely approximates what I think of when I use the word risk or see it used in an information security concept. I am challenged to understand why they chose this nonsense definition and what they hope to achieve by it.

I am reviewing ISO 27000, as one does for shits and giggles, and I am curious about the motivation behind making "interested party" the preferred term while "stakeholder" is allowed but not preferred.
In the contexts in which I see stakeholder used, I believe it is a more accurate term than "interested party." Preferring the latter term IMO obfuscates meaning rather than clarifying it.

#CBP justified the rollback by stating in the memo–titled Rescission of Legacy Policies Related to Care & Custody–the policies were “obsolete” & “misaligned” w/the agency’s current enforcement priorities.
Together, the now-rescinded policies laid out #standards for #detainees w/heightened #medical needs—requiring, for instance, access to #water & #food for #pregnant people, ensuring #privacy for #breastfeeding #mothers, & mandating #diapers & unexpired #formula be stocked in holding facilities.

Older standards do get declared deprecated, but that means they'll remain in the books still to reference for historical reasons.

OFC a newer standard gets written and then oreambled to replace older ones.

This has been the norm for everyone regsrdless if DIN, ISO, IEC, IEEE or IETF....

After all, one may face something as per revious standard and may need the correct source to reference for it.

Imagine if IEC decided to basically scrap all other AC power connectors but IEC 6320 C19/C20, IEC60906-1 & IEC60309 125A 400 V 3L+N+PE 6h and tell electricians to "GTFO!" when it comes to anything else.

#NIST turning themselves into willingful helpers of #Trump makes them less reliable (or rather unreliable) and thus erodes the #USA in terms of #Standards!

This is worse than what the Nazis did with DIN, cuz even they didn't fuck with standardization AFAIK!

Some quick news about the Long-form Text project at the Social Web Foundation. After the publication of the draft FEP b2b8 (“Long-form Text”), the Social Web Foundation has been working with implementers to get more support for the Article data type, representing multi-paragraph text on the Fediverse.

One of the big pain points has been how subscribers to long-form text from platforms like WordPress, WriteFreely, Plume and Ghost.org see the text in their microblogging platforms like Mastodon or Threads. Often, the data is abbreviated or misformatted. FEP b2b8 is, in part, a way to improve and standardize this problem.

The work in this area is bearing fruit; a few weeks ago, Shubhankar Srivastava of the Fediverse team at Threads announced that Threads is now properly displaying long-form text from Ghost. This is a big step forward in support.

The participants in the project are aiming to have better standards support from both publishers and consumers over the next few months, so I’m optimistic that other platforms will see similar improvements.

The #Fosstodon controversy is an excellent example of why the #decentralization of #Mastodon and the #Fediverse is not a panacea and not a substitute for #Justice.

As I have said on numerous occasions, what the world needs is broad agreement on comprehensive professional #moral, #ethical, #legal, and #procedural #standards for the operation of public private spaces that includes a firm commitment to #Equality and mechanisms for community and legal #accountability and an #appellate #process.

Garre said no, because those #schools would still need to meet the state’s #academic #standards & could not focus their #curriculum on those subjects. As a #CharterSchool, St. Isidore would have to meet those standards, too, Garre has argued.
