#photoOfTheDay shows the VR (Victoria Regina) royal cipher of Queen Victoria on the brass guard of an English patent solid hilt Pattern 1845 infantry officer's sword. This sword was supplied by the C. Webb & Co. outfitters of London, and the blade is etched with the name of Captain Wilkinson.

Busy day - clean the car, shop for lunches for the week, and sharpen and clean this rapier, one of my son's college graduation gifts! One of these things is not like the others... 😁

Sharpening both edges of both blades (4 passes) to achieve paper-slicing edges. Not especially easy with a thin 36-inch, flexible blade!
Clean off the shipping oil and apply Renaissance Wax to steel surfaces, including on the scabbard.
Sharpened, finished rapier.

My Viking Broad Seax is composited of multiple bars. To maintain pattern flow, I forge a reverse tip. This involves cutting the tip in reverse and then forging it back which allows the pattern to flow along the cutting edge.
