@aren
also breaking my head around this..
we have to stop thinking the android/ios way and open ourself to a more elegant solution for gesture/usability (#sxmo volume menu goes into the right direction).
@EdenIsASpood
similar issues on android:
e.g. while filling out a form and then wanting to open the menu to check date and time, it refreshes the browser instead and everything is gone... also the browser back/forward gestures can be very very annoying on some websites and apps..

thank you so much for this video (and posting on peertube)!
makes me really thinking of getting a #PineNote instead of a laptop...
could you show us how syntax highlighting looks like for coding on this greyscale screen, for exmple opening some code with micro editor?
of course i'd love to see #postmarketos with #sxmo running on it, but maybe this will become a winter task for me
there or other nice touchscreen keyboards to use, see here:

We now have a short "getting started" page featuring nice gesture videos made by magdesign. These demo gestures to newcomers so they can quickly and visually grasp how Sxmo works and get going with it. It came to our attention at FOSDEM that this was something that people struggled with when they start out:
If you always wanted to run a tiling window manager on your smartphone, give Sxmo a try.
They just added a nice getting started guide to nicely illustrate how gestures are used to open the menu, bring up and close the keyboard, switch between workspaces and more:

@linmob @tuxdevices @jubei This reminds me, I recently came across an #sxmo review video by 'Bitter Epic Technology' that starts with a funny sketch about such a #linuxpay technology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-xrjGqhHok

www.youtube.com@benjaminedwardwebb I have a Pinephone (but I use it sporadically not as the daily driver) the only actually usable OS was #sxmo . You need some time to memorize gestures, but then experience is quite smooth. I never used a "Pro" model – there might be some hiccups.
My #sxmo talk at #fosdem2025 last week is now available on-line: https://video.fosdem.org/2025/h2214/fosdem-2025-5926-sxmo-a-mobile-ui-for-hackers.av1.webm
For the first time ever, I met actual people using #sxmo and #postmarketos, in the flesh! At #fosdem2025 .

@T_X Also the bet i made 5y ago is won: how disappointing it seemed at first, it is the power of the communities, the cleverness of the free/libre software developpers and users, and the personal work on tweaking and tinkering that made it over time get way better: more performance, adequation to my own needs, battery life even!
I composed an environment based on the free/libre modem "distro" https://github.com/the-modem-distro/pinephone_modem_sdk, #postmarketOS edge, #sxmo and mostly TUI tools: #tut #aerc #gomuks #links -g
I was quite pleased with my worldtime menu for sxmo_gshock so I extracted it as a standalone script for #sxmo
https://git.sr.ht/~fdlamotte/sxmo_wt
It just launches a clock for the selected timezone, but its quite handy to be able to pick it from the map thanks to #mepo
Here are the main menus for the sxmo_gshock.py script I'm using on my phone running #sxmo
This script evolved a lot since the last time I wrote about it, I can now get reminders or setup alarms from my calendar using khal and change timezone using #mepo
I'd like to keep it simple, so it should not evolve much from now
@Sarahw exactly! that's why i use a #pinephone with #postmarketOS and #sxmo! (not saying everyone should do like me, i am just exploring path for my personal freedom to help make it viable for others...). #linuxphone
yet using no such device at all is also a valid option...
