Before the days of the Saturday cartoons, there were westerns and circuses instead. I bring this up because a number of basic cable channels have been re-running the likes of The Rifleman, The Big Valley, Wagon Train, Bonanza, and shows of this genre but were shown in prime time back in the day....possible exception are Spanish language channels showing classic Cantiflas...yes, there are Cantiflas cartoons but they don't count.

There's one prime time western that didn't make it to syndication for some reason, and the star of that one was Mr. Hawaii Five-O guy, Jack Lord of all people, and I used to watch that one regularly...and today I found out the possible explanation: "Stoney Burke" lasted only 6 months. Too many rodeos for the guy famous for "Book 'im, Danno".

Also missing but less explainable are the former Saturday regular fare: Cisco Kid, Roy Rogers Show, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, The Virginian, The Last of the Mohicans and such. If the syndicators are going to resurrect Cantiflas and The Three Stooges, they should resurrect these good folks too.
