M1: The Incredible Expanding Crab
M1, the Crab #Nebula, is a supernova remnant 6,500 light-years away in Taurus. Witnessed in 1054, it spans 10 light-years and expands at 1,500 km/s. #Hubble (2005) and #Webb (2023) images show its growth.

Can anyone recommend a good camera that attaches to a telescope?
Please boost for reach, as I'm on a small instance.

NEW #Astrophoto: Messier 97
In March, I added luminance data to my Messier 97 OSC RGB image from 2023. I think the result is quite impressive.

Young Star Cluster NGC 346
NGC 346, a massive young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud, is 210,000 light-years away. Its stars shape their surrounding nebula and trigger new star formation. This James #Webb Space #Telescope #infrared image shows the region's vibrant colors across 240 light-years.

The big sunspot region continues to rotate into view! Today I was able to see it with my eclipse glasses, which is always neat. I'll definitely assemble a little animation with all of the images I capture because this one is easy to track.

As promised, I'm back again with a fresh solar image. The big sunspot is coming around the bend and should be visible with eclipse glasses soon! Fingers crossed for some flares and aurora fun!

#Saturn's Rings Appear to Disappear
In 1610, Galileo mistook Saturn's rings for "ears" using a new #telescope. By 1612, the rings vanished from view due to #Earth's perspective. This cycle repeats every 15 years with Saturn's seasonal tilt. A photo comparison from Brazil illustrates this: clear rings in 2020, barely visible in 2025.

After solving the IR LED issue, I pointed my scope at one of my favorite narrowband targets: The Crescent Nebula. This target has incredible detail in H-alpha, but the real star of the show for me is the blue OIII "shell" around it. With only 40 minutes of exposure time on that filter, it's already starting to show and will only get more pronounced with more exposure time.

IC 418: The Spirograph #Nebula
The Spirograph Nebula (IC 418) displays mysterious patterns possibly due to its central star's chaotic winds. Once like our Sun, it evolved from a red giant to shedding its outer layers, leaving a core that will become a white dwarf. Located 2000 light-years away, this #Hubble image captures its enigmatic glow.
