Approaching Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy April 1977 and 2023 (from my fathers slide collection, Nikkormatt EL) I attempted to recreate some of my fathers shots during our trip
I still have fond memories of our trip there and 46 years later I was able to create a whole new set with my son

A few years before Madden, this is what it looked like to play a digital football game in 1978.

Retro SciFi Film of the Week…
THX 1138 (1971)
Starting out as a student project, this film was George Lucas's first. Apparently Warner Brothers thought it was good enough and decided to back it. Francis Ford Coppola who was already seeing a lot of success by that time also joined the project to help produce.
The film didn’t get many rave reviews when it was first released, but when Lucas went on to make Star Wars just six years later, THX 1138 enjoyed a significant bump in its esteem.
One of the features of the dystopian world depicted in this film is a drug to suppress everyone’s emotions. This is an idea loosely borrowed from A Brave New World, except in Huxley’s story the controlling drug is a happy pill not an emotion-suppression pill. This same idea of a society with suppressed emotions has been used from time to time in science fiction, more recently by the film Equals (2015).
It’s been released in several different cuts (some parts of the original release were censored by Warner Bros). Generally, I’d say the longer cuts are probably closer Lucas’ vision.
There was a director's cut released in 2004 by Lucas himself which is a true director's cut, however if you watch that one you'll be looking at his vision in 2004, and may not be what he would have done 1971 as director’s cut.

youtu.beApril 15, 1970 a march to Harvard square protesting the Viet Nam war turned to riots
The number of protesters was estimated to be around 1,500 when they entered Harvard Square at 7pm. At 7:20pm, the street lights were turned off and police formed a blockade. Some protesters started rioting, throwing bricks, smashing windows, setting fires and taunting Harvard University students watching from their dormitories. About 2,000 police officers started charging the protesters at 8:19pm, firing tear gas. The streets were cleared at about 1am and the National Guard soldiers dismissed at 2am. A curfew imposed that evening was lifted at 6am.
314 people were treated for injuries, including 35 policemen. Damages were estimated at $100,000.
Future Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was at this event, and says it was a catalyst for his disillusionment with leftist movements and began his turn to conservatism.

Cruel to Be Kind - Nick Lowe
Happy Seventies Sunday, folks!
Here's one with a killer hook from the wayback machine. Enjoy Nick's wedding to Carlene Carter. Filmed at the Tropicana Motel, West Hollywood, and featuring Dave Edmunds as the limo driver.
The Knights of Columbus would raise money for you, but they're not gonna sugar coat it. #the70s #flashback

THE ALL-#JEW ROCK AND ROLL BAND FROM #NYC THAT LIKELY YOU HAVE HEARD
After the #NewYorkDolls, #TheDictators were the second punk band out of #NewYorkCity. They even had Jew producer Sandy Pearlman who produced Blue Oyster Cult and later, The Clash, producing this one.
I like #RossTheBoss' guitar playing, that is Ross Friedman. He went on to have fame in Europe with the metal band #ManOWar
OF COURSE MOST KNOW THEM FOR ...
... School's Out or No More Mr. Nice Guy but this one I like better. It is more or less a straight up rock and roll song and there is a bit of a #DavidBowie influence with the horns. It is from 1971 if I recall.

YOU HAVE NOT LIVED, IN TRUTH, UNLESS YOU HAVE LISTENED TO THIS AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE
These guys were a crazy European band, maybe Swiss, maybe Dutch. I can't remember.
Focus - Hocus Pocus
BLUE OYSTER CULT - ME 262
Of course most know them for (Don't Fear) The Reaper or Go, go, go #Godzilla, but Blue Oyster Cult put out many records in the 1970s and 1980s. Sandy Pearlman produced them. He went on to produce the second Clash recording.
This one is a straight up rocker, more or less. The riff is a goody.
PUSS N BOOTS --- JOHNNY THUNDERS LAYS DOWN HIS TRADEMARK SOUND ON THIS ONE
You can hear how much this song influenced #SteveJones and #SexPistols.
Supposedly, the lyrics are about Kiss. You see, before they were Kiss, they were Wicked Lester, a wannabe band hanging around the #Dolls. Anyway, they came out with their boots and face painting gimmick after they could not make it legitimately. Johansen penned the lyrics about them.
This song is a badass keeper, that is if you like straight up rock and roll from the band that started #PunkRock.
WITH CLASSIC ROCK RADIO BROADCASTING FOR WHAT THE LAST 30 YEARS? ...
... it is hard to believe these dorks never heard #Boston's More than a Feeling until this video shoot.
They remind me of That 70s show.
