If this world had any sense left, we would be bringing back the ThinkLight.
Someone just donated this barely used t14!
Damn I'm a sucker for a #thinkpad especially one in great shape like this.
Going to make someone very happy!

I've finally filed a bug report about the "0% backlight on resume" heisenbug with laptops and docking stations (or port replicators, or external displays), which has been annoying me for decades on #Linux with any #ThinkPad model I've used (also reportedly affects #Framework laptops too): https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/upower/-/issues/304
I'm not even sure I filed it in the right place. Which #FreeDesktop component might be causing this is completely arcane knowledge.
I hope this is the correct place to report this, as…
GitLabcan't decide on a new #pixel tablet with #grapheneos on it or a refurb #thinkpad yoga with #bluefin on it. use case is behind racks in a NOC, configuring gear and whatnot plus reading magazines from the library with Libby. also reading technical docs in PDF dorm for industrial equipment, hence the desire for a touchscreen.
#android has terminal capabilities (built in or via termux). choices, choices.
For those interested in the full story and the working BIOS settings, I wrote them down here:

As I was testing OpenBSD on my refurbished ThinkPad…
www.tumfatig.netFediverse...I might actually put a sticker on my laptop and I dunno what to do. It's weird. I've never in my life understood why people do it and I'm not sure that I really want to. I don't even go anywhere with my laptop. I dunno if I wanna mess up the finish of my laptop (it's a #thinkpad, not an aluminum machine and seems to be the thing people do).
Also, while typing this, I noticed that Tuba highlights the matching parentheses while typing.

@moraghickman thank you for the gift that keeps on giving!
My Thinkpad X1 Carbon (6th Gen) came out 7 years ago. I bought it for $400 in 2020. I've upgraded the SSD, the battery, and the Wi-Fi seven chipset. That's one of the reasons I really like my ThinkPad, it's a really good machine.
I'm going to wait until the arm #Thinkpad is stable under Linux, and probably pick one up second hand. I don't expect that to be until probably this winter at the soonest. By then my laptop will be pushing 8 years old. I think 8 years is enough to upgrade.
When I recently installed #FreeBSD 14.2 on the "new" #Thinkpad T15 Gen1 for my mother, I was first excited to see the installer load #iwlwifi. And later disappointed it's *still* restricted to 802.11g.
But configuring #lagg in #failover mode over lan and #wifi is an awesome feature, and as this machine will be operated almost 100% of time in a docking station connected via 1000-BaseT, its fine for now. Still hoping to see newer wifi standards supported ... I see there's work going on from bugzilla and other sources.
You know, you'd think Lenovo would make a tablet called a ThinkPAD. It's, you know, built into the name and all. You'd think after all these years, they'd be able to make a decent tablet that could go against an iPad.
if a guy were to get a #thinkpad second hand that can be dragged behind racks in NOCs but is equally capable of watching the youtubes, what kinda models would he try to find second hand deals on? I'll be running #linux as usual and I think maybe I'd like more than 8GB of RAM for a little future proofing. usb-c charging would be rad but probably not necessary.
also what about them there fold up lenovos what with the touchscreen?
boosts appreciated. I am ready for the nerd rant flood.
