Anything that puts effects before causes is *inherently* confusing to humans. (If you're not putting effects before causes, you're not writing #TimeTravel.)
So picking rules, and following them, is critical. They don't have to be clear at the start, but by the end they should be revealed and everything must have been consistent with them.
(Tiny exception for stories *about* how bizarre the idea is.

Finished watching Time Cut (2024) 
on Netflix. It won't be for everyone and I understand that but its completely my kind of cheesy horror movie. I love those slasher movies which hybrid with sci-fi/Back To The Future to make something different. They're always a throwback to a cool soundtrack. Its just a fun watch. So @steggy has a good explanation of why this is the dumbest timeline. All these civilisations who have invented time travel know it is terrible. It’s notorious. They keep trying to come back and fix things. And they keep mucking with things and making it worse. Maybe it’s not actually our fault.
