Tip

Monster attacks will always prefer actions with damage, unless only non-damaging actions are available. Non-damaging actions do 1 damage.

Some monsters have "multi-attacks" in which they use multiple actions at once.

Some monsters have attacks with DC checks, in which case the character rolls dice to try to avoid the damage.

Tip

Armor Class (AC) determines how difficult a creature is to hit, higher meaning more difficult to hit.

Armor increases AC. Most armor adds your Dexterity (Dex) modifier to your AC. Heavy armor doesn't scale with Dex and requires a certain amount of Strength (Str) to wear.

Shields increase AC by a flat +2 and can be wielded with a one-handed weapon.

Monsters generally do not "wear" armor in the traditional sense and have a flat AC.

Tip

The shop only carries equipment that the character is proficient in and has enough gold for.

Note that some classes can only wear certain types of armor; most spell casters cannot wear armor.

Some weapons have special properties that affect how they are used, these properties are displayed with letters in the shop.

V = Versatile, allows you to use a one-handed weapon as a two-handed weapon if your other hand is empty.
T = Thrown, allows you to throw the weapon as a ranged attack.
L = Light, allows you to equip the weapon alongside another Light weapon.

Tip

Improvised attacks are when a character attacks with a weapon in a way it was not made for. For example, swatting a monster with a bow, or throwing a club.

Improvised attack rolls do not gain proficiency bonus and always do 1d4 + the attack type's modifier in damage.

Tip

Character names are chosen from the first word of displaynames that follow the account. Only 2 or more alphabetical characters are used.

Classes and races are random, with each class/race option being unique during new character creation.

Short Rests restore a limited amount of hitpoints by expending hit dice. They also can restore some spell slots if you're a Wizard or Warlock.

Long Rests restore all hitpoints, your Level/2 hit dice, and all spell slots, but require more uninterrupted time.
