"Veteran teachers from his school corrected him when he spoke without raising his hand and offered common-sense advice when a boy in his group said something inappropriate.
" 'When someone says something inappropriate, you don’t repeat it,' teacher Kayla Creighton told the boys between answering their questions about horseflies and honeybees.
"Indeed, it’s hard to find a more middle-of-the road organization in this country than the Boys & Girls Club.
"Just last month, a Republican and a Democrat sponsored a resolution in the U.S. House celebrating the 165-year-old organization as a 'beacon of hope and opportunity.' The Defense Department awarded the club $3 million in 1991 to support children left behind when their parents deployed for the Persian Gulf. And ever since, the Boys & Girls Club has created clubs on military installations to support the children of service members. Military families can sign up their kids for free.

AP NewsA student asked me to cheat.
They presented me with an exam packet and said they wanted the packet done by such and such date.
That's not how any of this works. I offer tutoring. We work through problems together. I ain't some sort of Mechanical Turk.
Do I need the money? Yes, I do.
Thing is though... I don't cheat.
I've reported them to the tutoring platform, and told them I cannot take the offer. They may try with another tutor, the other tutor may accept, and the platform may be able to nab two cheaters.
Maybe one day, I will take my own advice and value my own time and worth.
Another weekend morning #tutoring client and I gave them an extra 2.5hrs free.

That said, reading their report card, and seeing their progress was delightful.
So perhaps they earned it?
A tutoring job ad;
"Hi, my son is failing his Algebra class, but we need him to get a perfect score. His final is in two days. Here's the list of subjects:

Oh, and yeah, we don't even offer minimum wage. Any takers?"
This is satire, but sometimes tutoring ads boil down to this.
Seen in a tutoring job ad for *math*:
"My son is classically trained..."
What does this mean? Why does it matter?
He's read Seneca in Latin?
He's been trained in classical music?
Something else?
How does this have any impact on math?
One thing I've noticed recently is students trying to get ahead of their math coursework with summer tutoring.
Whether it is their idea or a parent's is unknown.
However, I've never relied on summer tutoring to get ahead of my math coursework.
I wouldn't say "summer is for fun." However, it is (often) for other things than school. It can be work, play, whatever.
I'm concerned for their well-being.
(I said "often" above because I have taken summer courses: intensives in Hindi, and Mandarin. But I was post-graduate at the time.)

"I am looking for someone to teach funtions."

This after very nearly dropping out of school due to little #ActuallyAutistic support.
So happy - deserves it.

Dear Friends,
My disability is going to run out soon. The SSA has sent me mail to this effect.
I've been tutoring in math about 1.5 years now. Unfortunately, the volume of students I have currently won't make up for the loss of my disability income.
So I need more students. I tutor prealgebra, algebra 1 and 2, precalculus, calculus 1 and 2, and SAT Math. I've tutored children, teens and adults.
I can tutor French too, but you need to be okay with the French-Canadian accent.
I *could* tutor topics outside the list above, but we'd have to discuss it.
