Timezone definition update for smartwatches rolls out

Recently, the timezone definition for smartwatches running Wear OS based on Android has been updated to support the latest changes made to some of the timezones. According to the IANA timezone database that Android uses, your smartwatch gets the latest timezone information from such database that uses the official timezone definitions according to your country’s government.

Some countries have ceased using summer time, and some others still use the summer time. The database reflects all the changes to the timezones according to each city in each country.

Now, people have started getting the timezone definition update through a small notification saying that their watch has been updated to use the latest timezone definitions and to reboot it to finalize the update. This was the notification:

In order to update the timezone definitions, restart your watch using the Restart now button found in the notification. If you have dismissed the notification, the next time you restart your watch, the timezone definition update will be installed. The update will be installed instantly and in no time, unlike major software updates, such as the upcoming One UI 7 Watch (or is it One UI 6.5 Watch?).

Juli 1980 22:15 in Büsingen" liegen.

This morning in #Mexico many #Android phones will be confusing people by showing the wrong #time. We no longer have #DST, but updating the #tzdata timezone database on most older devices is almost impossible.

Don't worry, just buy a new device. It's easy, Just throw all that silly old #lithium, #manganese, #tellurium, #tungsten and #cobalt in the landfill.
And all for a locked #bootloader.

An example of 💩 gle and the phone manufacturing industry being #evil.

The #tzdata package has the has most useful errata page ever. November 3rd changes include:

• Mexico will stop observing daylight saving time (DST) except near the border with the United Stated of America.
• Chihuahua moved to the time offset of -06:00 from the coordinated universal time (UTC) permanently starting on October 30 2022.
