The view from my loom on a lovely rainy day listening to a thunder storm. That’s 2 teatowels complete from this warp #weaving #handweaving #handmade #væv #vævning
I really want a larger (longer) loom and something with a second heddle, so I can make proper sized towels and things, and try some twill. But I feel like I need to get to a certain point with the smaller loom first. What point that is, I don't know. #weaving #fiberarts
A complete but not fully finished woven strip of cotlin that I didn't really have a plan for...just wanted some practice because linen is HARD and also I'd had a weaving fail I wanted to get past. Maybe I'll meet a teddy who needs a scarf, or a squirrel in need of a runner for its tiny picnic table. #weaving #fiberarts
Vacation weaving means the first teatowel on this warp is done #weaving #handweaving #væv #vævning

I'm biased, but I think it's a delightful issue. every question I've ever had about warps is in there.

Finished my latest weaving project. This was probably more complicated than I should have gone with for my second attempt but it's turned out nice enough. The idea was to turn it into a pillowcase for a throw pillow. The rigid heddle loom I have isn't the widest so I'm not sure that's going to work super well.

BBC NewsSo how do you keep track of your count when you are counting hundreds of threads? This is where a counting thread comes in handy. Each time I count ten threads, I loop a contrasting color thread around it in an alternating pattern. That way if I lose count, at most I just have to go back and recount ten threads.
For this many threads, I also use a second thread to keep track of hundreds.
I’m weaving my wife a silk stole from the finest silk yarn I’ve ever used (2/60). With ~70 wraps per inch, my twill pattern will be 40 ends per inch. For a 20” wide stole, that means measuring 800 3-yard warp threads.
So how do you measure 800 3-yard warp threads w/o losing count? This is where a warping frame comes in handy. In this picture is my 1-yard wide frame. That means if I run the yarn back and forth three times, I have a 3-yard strand. I’ve currently counted 500 threads.
This week's blog post is a summary of weaving samples I did as part of my weaving study with Jane Stafford's School of Weaving. I wove a set of tea towels looking at Colour and Pattern Weave.

Renfrew Ravine Park | Meet at Renfrew Ravine Labyrinth.
"Join Still Moon for another round of basket weaving and stewardship at the Mid Ravine site! We’ve removed nearly 80% of the English ivy ground cover and are aiming to complete or come close to finishing it during this session. We'll spend the first hour and a half removing ivy and other invasive species, followed by an hour of relaxing basket weaving. Come lend a hand in caring for this special site—and take home a handmade basket! We'll return in the fall to plant a rich mix of native species."
This site has both flat and sloped areas, and is accessed by a flat path, there is something for everyone to do here! If you need help getting to the site, or have other questions about accessibility, please email connelly@stillmoonarts.ca.
Still Moon Arts Society mobilizes community and creates positive change through eco-arts and environmental stewardship programming, and produces the annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival.
