#PippoPollina und das Jugendsymphonieorchester der Schweiz in #Berlin im Konzertsaal der Universität der Künste. Ein ganz wunderbares Konzert.
(context: coding-trained LLM interaction, after I asked how short I can make a timeout for a tokio async test scenario):
LLM: 10ms is usually reliable unless running under heavy CI load.
Me: I'm an OG XP Programmer, "heavy CI load" is a misnomer! :-) continuous integration is a practice, not a tool.
LLM: True. CI is a discipline, not a server farm. Real XP: integrate always, test constantly, trust small, fast, deterministic tests.
Respect.
... Finally! someone respects my programming beliefs!

@thirstybear I like to use the analogy of Chess. #XP has simple rules, they don't take long to learn, an hour or two at most.
Playing the game is something different, that takes months.
Playing well takes years.
this culture war shit has got to stop.
but it wont, because its too profitable for the participants.
so ima just yeet myself for awhile. #xp

Maria Milanović et al. (2025) Successful alien plant species exhibit functional dissimilarity from natives under varied climatic conditions but not under increased nutrient availability. Journal of Vegetation Science 36: e70032. https://doi.org/10.1111/jvs.70032
Alien and native species increasing in their abundance did not differ in their leaf traits. We found significantly lower specific leaf area (SLA) with an increase in mean annual temperature and lower leaf Potassium with mean annual precipitation. For trait–environment relationships, when compared to native species, successful aliens exhibited an increase in leaf Phosphorus and a decrease in leaf Potassium with an increase in mean annual precipitation. Finally, aliens' SLA decreased in plots with higher mean annual temperatures.

Tonight, we will be streaming another pixelated indie game in a dystopic cyberpunk universe where girls are augmented with weapons far larger than they are and must face off against hordes of angry robots.
That's right, we're streaming Sentinel Girls! #vtuber #envtuber #vtuberuprising #xp
We're now under a level 5 threat and the weatherguy is saying "everything is possible," and a tornado has touched down. Windspeeds at a good 60-70 mph.
Now wishing I splurged on that home weather station thing o Wo.
Unfortunately, might need to cancel stream, will keep updated. #xp

FosstodonXP much different to Win7 ?
@lord_nougat @gabriel Ok, so the whole #XP thing (and pretending I don't like XP just for show here) do you think #Win7 was that far different to XP? (If so how...?)
Was it a massive jump or maybe just it's number change mostly?
Good to have a comparison chart but I remember looking over it a lot at the time, and mainly added was the incorporation and ability to have more capacity disk / GPT partition / more ram and not really discontinue anything or disable anything in exchange - so was still great.
So how about both XP and Win7 could be considered great?
XP wins for being slimmer / faster (1 #CD and even still has recent updated slip-streamed ISO's to give it that useful modern kick for updates while installing and wider spectrum of drivers not needing further motherboard driver installs after). Again even the basic default XP drivers without heavy drilling can be not much difference or just the usual install over them as with anything.
So for non-changing users XP is enough and then Win7
a bit more ability / compatibility.
Both have 32bit and 64bit versions too (which actually might not make that much difference as well and can even make sense to keep 32bit to keep older apps going.
Considering how hard #Linux was to install / get functioning (maybe only recently or since Ubuntu 10 years ago) I don't think people got that bad a deal.
What do you think for these points? Sometimes we miss things in hindsight but older stuff can be simpler... even as Micro$haft being monopoly but very limited even at that time to exploit users.
As for security I once challenged all the #Fediverse techies to hack my XP / Win7 machine to prove it was so bad and "oooh no you should update right away" to "latest version" like it was the next fashion without any big reasons....
Anyway no takers to prove me wrong / all failed to reply :D
