Finished #reading The Will of the Many" by James Islington. I was disheartened at first to discover this was basically a YA book following a standard theme. Our young hero has a secret past but now finds himself in an academy with other people his age and the culmination of their training will be an all-important contest leading to great power for the winner. Yawn. I kept reading because the world was weird. Due to some essentially magical technological relics of a "pre-Cataclysm" world, this society is based on a pyramid scheme where there are multiple pyramids and the higher up you are in one the more "will" or power you draw from those below. Naturally there is a rebel force, which extorts our hero to act on their behalf or they'll reveal his true identity. Meanwhile he makes friends at the academy and ultimately completes the final test while enemies try to kill him & his friends. The end sets up a continuation in a forthcoming 2nd book. I'm sure YA fans will enjoy the story. #SFF #fantasy #YA #bookstodon

I've finished: Scythe by Neal Shusterman

It was recommended as part of a Story Graph reading challenge under the prompt:

I found it to be a very conventional YA dystopia novel.
