When I chose sobriety, I didn't realise it was going to make life harder for me & (hopefully) easier for those I love. My drinking masked a lifetime of maladaptive strategies I had adopted to survive as opposed to thrive. Strategies from an abusive childhood, teen SA, undiscovered ASD. Giving up alcohol has become a process of uncovering these strategies & learning more adaptive ones. The Great Work is normally a process of transcendence. For me, it's about of becoming a half decent human.

Well said and well done, friend. Coming up on nine years here, so I have some acquaintance with your observation. 👍
