There are a higher number of more interesting toots on Mastodon compared to the bird site but I had more interaction to replies on the bird site. Here interacting seems very thin on the ground, perhaps my replies aren’t interesting enough. To me a reply is the highest honour I always interact with replies.

I reply to people way more than I post myself. I do boost a lot of things without commenting, though, particularly if whatever I may have said has already been said.
I also will unfollow anyone who spams out a bunch of posts without ever interacting with people who reply. I feel like a lot of mastodon is curating your timeline appropriately for yourself and your specific likes.
@BE agree on both points, I aim to pair down my following list, those who post incessantly but never interact are not worth following. This isn’t Twitter.
On a different point I follow a couple Americans who aim for self sufficiency. I admire but also slightly envy you. The challenge is greater in the UK, land is more expensive but culturally it’s just not in our identity in the way it is with your still admirable nation. That frontier spirit burns still.
