Cancelling Spectrum took FOREVER. After hearing me get increasingly angry at the representative who was begging me to listen to his pitch and not listening to me, my husband took the phone, told him off, and hung up. So of course nothing was cancelled.
I called back to cancel with a new person. To avoid the pitch I told him we were moving. He asked "where?" and I said "I don't know, none of your business. Far. Greece. Cancel us or not, you'll never get paid." He did.
It's such a pathetic, desperate business tactic. They hire people to sit on phones and beg customers to stay rather than make the service so great and affordable that people think "wow, what a deal!" It's very weird.
We cancelled Spectrum for TV service probably 8 years ago now. Sounds like it's about the same as it was then. They also lied about how much standalone internet would cost. At the time there was, literally, no other internet provider, so they told us internet by itself would cost $200 a month, so we might as well just keep the TV service as it was barely more than that if we just kept it as a bundle.
After probably an hour arguing with them and demanding to have the cable service cancelled, being transferred a dozen times, finally insisting that, yes, go ahead and cancel everything, even the internet, they finally did it.
Put us on hold for a while, and then went "Oh! Look at that! We just found out we can give you standalone internet service for $50, not $200. Wow, who knew?"
It was all a bluff to get you to back down and give up at each step. I've never forgotten just how nasty they made it. The minute another internet provider was available we switched. We've gotten "deal offers" from them in the mail, that they won't stop sending, on average twice a week for the last 8 years now. Couldn't pay me to deal with them again at this point.
@BE They will send us mail either way though -- there needs to be a law about junk mail because my mailbox is mostly credit card offers, isps, and "move to the suburbs" mailers. I want a snail mail spam filter.
@BE They were going to give me standalone internet service for $30 when they got to the end (we have affordable connectivity program), and I told them that I already got Fiber installed so maybe they should've made that offer a long time ago. That was when homie grabbed my phone and yelled at the dude.
