I’ve been trying very hard not to be excited about the news that a team in Korean announced they had discovered a formulation for a room temperature superconductor. Such a material would revolutionize, well, pretty much everything and have a huge impact on our civilization’s reliance on fossil fuels, not to mention low energy levitating trains, quantum computing and medical imaging.

There’s always a risk in a big announcement that it will turn out to be mistaken, like Fleishman and Pons cold fusion 30 years ago. However, with the news today that 2 other labs have replicated the material and confirmed the effect and another lab has a working model of the class of materials and why they work I think we might be on the verge of something here.

It’s very cool.
