I think @jmcrookston has a thread about this, but, I believe, off hand, that we've known HCoV-OC43 was persistent long before SARS-CoV-2 came around.

Also, many viruses generally. I don't know why people think they don't persist other than wishful thinking that when you get better, you're really better forever.
