You know, I think people's experience of the Fediverse (Mastodon) all depends on what client they use. Personally, I would advise using the Web front end for a week or so just to get a feel for it because it's not a single-column activity like Twitter.

It sort of resembles Tweetdeck, which used to be the best client for multiple social media until Twitter bought them. Now just does Tweeter, but multiple customizable columns.
