@9M252YDA This question is like gong into a heavy metal forum and asking who rocks hardest!

When my spouse moved from widows, she found Mint to be a relatively easy jump (because of the cinnamon desktop). She's since moved to ubuntu+cinnamon because mint was a little /too/ security focused for her tastes!

Good luck with whatever you pick!

@celesteh @9M252YDA That's definitely not the impression I've gotten from Mint.

In fact, I generally don't trust distro (or browser) derivatives; they're less likely to get important security updates to you quickly, and sometimes screw with important security properties for quick ease-of-use grabs.

@varx @9M252YDA they do this thing where they test every upstream update before recommending you install it and then require user approval for every update. It was the wrong word for me to describe it as 'security', but whatever it's properly called, most users don't want this much interaction with updates, my spouse included.

@celesteh @9M252YDA Oh interesting, is it in the name of stability, then?

@varx @celesteh @9M252YDA@kitty.town yes. It is in the name of stability. That way you don't have to worry about updates breaking your system. The update manager is good at labeling different updates at different levels of "safeness" to update.
