This article about the shrinking season for ice on New England #lakes, featuring a skating trail in #Vermont, hits me in all the emotional and scientific places. I feel like I’m spending my adult life chasing the winters of my childhood, but they are gone and my children will never know them. I don’t need the -40 windchills, but I do mourn knowing we could go #sledding or #skiing for weeks on end. I’m watching the end of #winter and mourning. wapo.st/3IJJEIx #ClimateDiary #ClimateGrief

@annejefferson My Dad and his brother grew up in Ipswich, Massachusetts in the early 20th century. Dad had a few photos of cutting ice from lakes to store in ice houses for summer use. Our family would spend Christmas in Ipswich on occasion. Cousins had a farm pond we would skate on. Photo is of Niagara Falls in early January about 1960.
