It's hyperbole for the purpose of complaining about VSCode being bloated, which it is. If they were being serious about the issue of Microsoft creating e-waste they'd talk about Windows 11.
There's a larger conversation to be had about companies knowingly creating negative externalities, but the (Hacker News) OP is too busy parroting standard "VSCode bad" talking points.
