It is essential to stop using Chrome.
Under the pretense of saving users from third-party spyware, Google is creating an ecosystem in which Chrome itself is the spyware.
Given Google's overwhelming presence in the browser market, this is unconscionable.
We should all despise the ad-tech business, and have no sympathy for the companies getting whacked by Google's actions. But we should not permit one monopolist to replace them all.
@martlund @Parienve @dangillmor if you are looking to avoid chrome, firefox is actively developed and is probably the best option.
as far as support, browser compatibility is pretty good these days. in rare cases, you might have to use chrome.
there’s also edge, which is decent, but it’s essentially just microsoft-branded chrome and ms has their own issues relating to privacy.
@blurp
Best mainstream option for sure, but Librewolf (a fork of Firefox) has more privacy-focused defaults. It even bundles uBlock Origin, which you should be using anyway.
@blurp @martlund @Parienve @dangillmor Only Firefox is free and open source here, all other browsers are proprietary (even if some source is available).
@Parienve @martlund @dangillmor yikes, only 9% are using Firefox?! I thought not using a web browser built by an advertising company was a no-brainer…
@forty2 @Parienve @martlund @dangillmor
not using a web browser built by an advertising company is nobrainer only for people caring of privacy. BFUs just wanna see pages...
@Parienve @dangillmor
My understanding is that Google/Chrome isn't a good idea, Mozilla/Firefox is no longer supported, so just wondered what others are using. TIA
