This week has proven to me that the general public still don’t understand MFA.
We’ve been on a push at work to get them all enrolled slowly, before they’re forced to use it around Easter.
Yet there’s still a large number of people who think an authentication app is a way of us tracking them, or that we’re going to use their phone number to sell on for profit.
I’m sorry Susan, but that isn’t how this works. We don’t hold any of your info and neither does the app 🤦‍♂️

You should make sure they know they can use an authenticator app of their choice, and reinforce this by naming at least a couple options.

That’s something I’ve been doing personally and have made sure it’s mentioned in the self help guide I wrote.
The official line given is to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, but I let them know that Google, Authy and anything else they wish to use is also fine.
There’s also the option of FIDO2 keys, but explaining that principle seems to take forever and they still find a reason to hate the idea.
