@harriettmb @jacqui76 @irelandpolitics Agreed. Unionism needs better leaders and isn't getting them. DUP are hopeless. The UUP, or at least some of them, do try, but neither hard enough nor with notable success. The two main unionist parties are the best workers the shinners have.

The silver lining, perhaps, is that progressive-inclined unionists increasingly vote Alliance, and that younger people are increasingly disinclined to identify as unionist or nationalist.

@harriettmb @jacqui76 @irelandpolitics PS: The SDLP are not entirely free of blame here. Their leaders have signally failed to throw their weight behind tactical voting the way the UUP (or at least Beattie) have done. They thus hurt themselves and the more moderate unionist party while fueling the centrifugal force that drives votes to the more extreme of the aligned parties.

Thing is we don't need the parties to throw their weight behind tactical voting. The NI electorate are well capable of doing that by themselves. Evidence - the last local elections. The uncomfortable truth is that some 'unionists' had to have had voted or given SF a transfer!

People of all shades are sick of the #DUP & them holding us to ransom because of their own stupidity. If Unionism can't accept NI has changed, they need to change with it. Then

I wonder how many voters in NI holding loosely Unionist views, would nevertheless vote for a united Ireland just to make all the post-Brexit problems go away?
